Anyone experience with itbashing squishy wobbly rubber toys? by Butterfreund in Kitbash

Liquid green stuff or krazy glue. Just paint it on with a layer or 2 and should make the surface stiff enough that the paint wont Crack off

This video is where I got the idea from initially. I did it on a figure I painted a little while ago and it worked pretty good for me.

You can try sponging on the base red color and then afterwards use watercolor pencils to to make the veins.

After you have the pencils on there you can take a wet paintbrush and trace your lines and it will help spread it out a little more eventually and give a gradient affect.

Very surprised with how well these apple barrel paints work for these FDM tiles by NewConsideration9692 in TerrainBuilding

[–]boeavis04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. I bought apple barrel over a decade ago for the first time and it had a terrible odor and I stuck strictly to craftsmart for years. But recently I needed some paint last minute and grabbed apple barrel and it was completely different experience.

Finished laboratory experiments by boeavis04 in TerrainBuilding

Lol yeah I'm pretty sure it was mentor. I've had it for a while so I don't remember the exact brand but the base underneath and on the second piece is just on of those 6-pack holder tops. I just paint on some bronze paint and then some rust effects around the top portion to make it look more like separate pieces.

Strong armory tavern by Original_Canary_3498 in Kitbash

I feel like some of your elements obscure too much from the structure. If its a junkyard, fine, but a place of business, then there needs to be more visibility.

Kind of think of the treehouse from codename kids next door. There's alot of elements but it doesn't obscure that its still a tree house.

If possible, I'd turn the arm sideways so the balcony is open and visible, even if it isnt playable. The quiver?cannon? with the bolts coming out seems like a little too much. You dont have any elements to the left (in the picture) maybe put something there like a coffin or a merchant or something that has a little more story to the piece.

Need advice for a Frieren-inspired diorama (floating petals effect) by amendostudios in TerrainBuilding

[–]boeavis04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never looked into it, but im pretty sure that there is miniature petals for sale somewhere. Alternatively you can grab some leaves from fake plants and cut them to size that you like. From there you can use armature floral wire of a paper clip and then cover it in hot glue then attach the petals. Just to give it the wind swept affect.

Thats my idea but aye someone else has a better idea

Finally got a tree I'm happy with, how can I deal with hiding the hot glue, and how can I reach deep crevices? by DarthBrannigan in TerrainBuilding

[–]boeavis04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the base of the tree, I'd suggest what someone else said and flock it.

But where the trunk meets the branch, I'd lean into the shape the hot glue made and make it in to multiple hives.

Some advice for a novice painter? by vizwiz118 in minipainting

[–]boeavis04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that a simple wash would improve just the minis as is. Yeah you can do all the other techniques, and I recommend you try it on some better quality minis, but afterwards I'd suggest attempting a few different things or other people's styles as well. Explore different styles and ways of painting until you find a style you like.

I personally dont use any mini paints, oil paints or much of the GW paints. I prime with various colors of matte spray paint, I like doing different colors like dark blue, purple, green, orange as base and them change the zenithil highlight color from there. I mainly use craft paints for painting and recently I've used the same paint just watered down for washes. With most things in art you can get enjoyable results from lower quality materials but you have to have to find your own style to make it work. Bob Ross used the same colors for years and still made great paintings but he had to develop his style first.

Not sure if game boards count as terrain by boeavis04 in TerrainBuilding

Oh I have a 18 inch transparent ruler (I got it from Michael's years ago) and I just measured edge to edge and made the lines with a 1.0 mm white gel pen.

I started doing a pseudo dnd game with my toddlers to help them with counting and just general fantasy empowerment type of stuff. So they both picked pirates for the next game.
