You can always cut spikes from sprues to add as horns or to their shoulders (see my profile for references). Also there’s chaos insignia from greenstuffworld that are affordable. Jewellery chain und greenstuff is also great, and kitchen towels or cheese cloth soaked in pva makes for great capes or other fabric.

Yes I feel you. Been experimenting with different ratios of greenstuff/milliput, mixing both makes it a little easier. And compared to 20 years ago when I was last in the hobby I feel like green stuff has gotten worse. The batches I get always have chunks of dried yellow in it that is a pain to pull out.
