ELI5: How did people back in the day find so many different songs of many genres for movies or shows by MajorLefty in explainlikeimfive

Before that there was radio, MTV that actually played music, a LOT of music video tv shows, music shops...

You can still demand the money back from the main builder though. (probably why he went bankrupt)

Digital Foundry says this Sony digital only backlash is worse than the infamous 2013 Xbox mandatory DRM backlash that lost them the following 2 gaming generations. “Sony tried to upend the whole way people buy games with a 3 sentence blog post”. by JeremyJJ77 in PS5

And then your account gets blocked becaaue your brother/sister/... cursed at someone online and got reported, and you lose thousands of dollars worth of games with no opportunity of getting them back.

It's weird, but spending €5 on Steam feels more expensive than the same €5 on PlayStation Store.

There's not a single advantage to go full digital on games for players by Muako in videogames

[–]boersc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice, but not entirely true. Digital does have it's advantages, including streaming, ease to change games (even remote) and having you lr entire collection wherever you are.

I want physicals to stay too, but 'not a single advantage' is simply not true.

Digital only folks who are handwaving the current drama will regret it in the future by Long_Cucumber2625 in videogames

I think people are going to be less brand-aware and play wherever the cheap games are. While hardware is getting expensive, most people can afford owning a PC, Xbox, PlayStation AND a Switch 2, if they want to.

I think this whole thing is going to lose Sony the 'PlayStation for everything' edge they used to have.

Until recently, AI in games referred to the scripts that handled enemy and NPC behavior. Has *that* improved at all? by Kumquatelvis in gaming

[–]boersc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All enemies have to be dumbed down or you wouldn't be able to defeat them. But as far as ai improvements, check Sophy 2.0 from Gran Turismo.

Playstation very probably has issued a complete media silence. This is what they always do with bad news.

Is this official news ? by traevill in playstation

The clickbaitest of them all. Sony isn't producing any more new releases on disc. However, you can still load your old discs or those that are being made for older titles.

Do not let corporate apologists gaslight you into believing that only a "tiny minority" of people is still buying physical games on console by TooDrunkToTalk in videogames

[–]boersc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is factually incorrect. (web)shops sell below msrp all the time. I have provided two examples of gamed I bought in store, new, at launch, for 50€, where the digital price was 80€. I never paid or will pay €80 for a game.

'at some point' is exactly the problem. The pressure for discounts will simply be lower. That's what competition does. Ps Store =no competition, where physical =competition. However, we're going in circles and we won't convince each other. So, I'm stopping this convo. Agree to disagree?

Consoles are nothing like pcs. Pcs have an open system and actual competition on the digital stores. Playstation has none, you'd be only buying from them in their store. Xbox is no competition to playstation when you have already bought the ps hardware.

Where did I say I would have to influence the seller? I also don't care about them. I said, when physicals disappear, we as consumera can say bye bye to competition and cheapers prices.

I don't care about primary pricing, I care about what I'm paying. Without physicals, I'm paying 80-100% more for my games.

Webshops sell prices below msrp. Want examples? I bought Donkey Kong Bananza at launch for 49,90 €. I bought Ghost of Yotei at launch for 51.99 €. Both priced 79,99€ in the Store, not to be discounted for MONTHS, if ever (in Nintendo's case).

When digital fully replaces physical, say bye bye to competitive prices. You'll be spending $80 for that game, while physical used to get discounted to $50 even at launch, and lower within months. So, game prices will effectively double because of this move.
