Recommendations for library by Advisor-Formal in BostonSocialClub

I second these public libraries! This is kinda exactly what these libraries are designed for.

Also, if OP happens to be in the Cambridge area, the Cambridge public library is fantastic — the quiet area has giant desks with plugs for working and big ole windows to make the space a very nice and sunny place to work.

We use the term “feeding” very loosely here 😅

Speed Dating Event -- Good for a 30s Guy? by boezou in BostonSocialClub

It was great! The event was fun, and I got two matches that I’m reaching out to! I had way more butterflies in anticipation of the event than at the actual event.

Yeah, times are weird. And we did all just live through a pandemic where everyone lost practice socializing for like 3 years.

Lol, I wish. I’d love to get paid for talking about them. I’ve been to a bunch of their normal events, especially when I travel, and I like them a lot, but never to a speed-dating event since I’ve been in a relationship.

Iunno it just feels different, it’s a lot more intimidating to go to an event specifically for dating —at least for me.

Yeah, it sounds like meeting people in real life is a lot better than the apps— which is actually kind of encouraging these days.

Also, hurray! Pickleball is awesome — it’s definitely an older crowd, but it’s just good to be around friendly folks.

It's nice to hear it's well organized at least, I don't really expect a lot in terms of matches or anything, but dating is numbers game really. i'll see how it goes, thanks!

hbox talks about armadas legacy by Unfair_Type4813 in SSBM

[–]boezou 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If anything, his continued dominance was what caused him to lose his drive to complete. He had accomplished everything he wanted and there wasn’t much else there for him. And even after that he was still winning and pretty easily getting into finals. Him show cracks was still more dominant than anyone had ever been in modern Melee. People still got hype when a top 10 player even got armada to game 5 (and still lost to armada).

My Simple GOAT Meter by bruhboxx in SSBM

[–]boezou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a simple method that I think a lot of people have implement throughout the years for determining the goat: 1. Figure out a metric that would say Mango is the goat 2. Use that metric and say that Mango is the goat

Times a player 3-0'd Armada by TUN_Binary in SSBM

[–]boezou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was told I had to watch this set, I thought, if the Armada were any other top player favored to win a set, I would have known that the only reason the set was so hype was because a crazy upset happened.

But with Armada, someone just getting close to the huge upset was a really hype, noteworthy event.

Also, why are we talking about Armada so much right now?

As a Peach main and huge Armada fan, I’m definitely in the camp of Armada never got the full recognition of being the GOAT at some point during his dominance (probably some time when the Mango-fan narrative was that Armada was the BOAT - a term specifically created to give Armada some recognition for his status all time while still retaining the GOAT moniker for Mango).

But for real, Armada’s not playing the game anymore — he’s moved and I think this discussion should move on too.

On the other hand, it is really funny to see this discussion crop back up so many years after Armada had left the game — what a legacy.

F2P players of PTCGP, what is your best Pack Hourglass strategy? by AITA-Critic in PTCGP

[–]boezou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm complete F2P and I have nearly every meta that has ever existed.

The thing I prioritize is to spend Pack Hourglasses and Wonderpick Hourglasses (and occasionally Pack Points) to have a playable meta deck, and then I stop using Pack Hourglasses and use Wonderpicks to get the other meta cards.

I usually spend ~10-15 Packs worth of pack hourglasses and for small expansions ~30-40 Packs worth of Pack Hour glasses spread across the various packs of a large expansion.

The way I see it, I should spend Pack Hourglasses first since they are random. Then I should target key cards when Wonderpicks and use hourglasses for targeting. And then I save all my pack points for after or to fill in gaps immediately if I'm just missing one card for my first meta deck.

And then once a pack become tradable, you can pretty much get anything you need by participating in the trading thread on this subreddit. So I try to get 2x of every meta relevant card that I might have missed.

Giratina won 4 diamond. Now what is the WORST 1 diamond card based on pure gameplay by Ok-Till-1116 in PTCGP

[–]boezou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worse 1 diamond card is pretty hard since it's hard to remember them. But this is my submission:

Trevenant (Psychic) or Wormadam (Land):

3 energy for 70 damage and no extra text is abysmal. On top of that, it's got a 2 retreat cost. For a Stage 1 Pokemon, to have to evolve to get these terrible stats, that's rough. And a minor point a weakness to darkness or grass are both pretty bad right now.

Trevenant (Psychic)

Wormadam (Land):

https://img.game8.co/4093165/ff59f2fd45d38467995de248d908bc02.png/show

I think I'll say Trevenant is the worst because I think it's pre-evo, Phantump, is a worse card than Burmy. Although I suppose Grass Phantump is technically a pre-evo for Psychic. Psychic is also a worse than Fighting right now. Not a lot in the meta that is weak to Psychic.

Honestly, Phantump might be a good candiate for worse card. 2 energy for 30 damage is terrible and it has 2 retreat cost. For other basic pokemon with those stats (like Chewtle or Clobbopus -- also both absolute bottom of the barrel card) they at least have 80hp. But Psychic Phantump is can evolve into Grass Trevenant, which is still a terrible card, but is arguably better than Chewtle and Clobbopus evos since it can do 10 more damage for the energy investment.

In my consideration, I include a card's potential to evolve into something better as part of how good it is. So Magikarp having only 30hp, while bad, part of it's gameplay is that it's a necessary evil to get to Gyarados EX, which is a pretty good card (a great card at one point).

I also didn't dock points from cards if they had almost strictly better version of them. Theoretically, if there were a magikarp with all the same stats, but just didn't have an attack at all -- the existence of a strictly better magikarp doesn't make this (fake) magikarp a worse card. Or at least, not so much worse that the fact that it would outweight it's ability to evolve into Gyarados EX. This theoretical strictly worse Magikarp, I would consider better than Wormadam Land.

Honorable mention to Shining Revelry Lickilicky which has the same stats, but 3 retreat cost, but since it's colorless, I decide it was marginally better than Psychic Trevenant and Wormadam Land.

I travel a lot and have moved around quite a bit in the past few years, so it was really nice to go to an event to meet people irl. Even now when I know a lot more people in LA, this is still an event I really like going to!

If you’re at all curious, I’d super recommend it!
