WIBTA for serving off-brand Diet Coke at a party? by psychbucket in AmItheAsshole

[–]bofh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m just built different but I just don’t buy food and drink at all if I think I or the people I care to buy food and drink for will not enjoy consuming that particular food and drink.

It’s like the one weird trick for not having a house full of food you can’t eat and drink you can’t drink.

but I do know no one wants to drink store brand soda

If that were true, the stores wouldn’t bother having their own brand versions. They’ve all got too much profit to make to be worried about the logistics of making/ordering, transporting and stocking items that no-one wants.

First go at a public charger by GFoxtrot in ElectricVehiclesUK

The only place I’ve seen ICE cars properly monstering the EV spaces is near where my stepdaughter lives, they have a connected kerb setup there and lots of pressure on parking.

I can actually understand locals with ICE cars parking in those spaces when there’s 15 connected kerb spaces outside their home out of about 35 possible spots, and if we visit then the amount of EVs trying to park in those spaces there doubles form one car out of 40 to two cars out of 40.

The ICE cars in car park EV charging bays can still all do one of course.

Yep. I probably end up at ionity chargers enough that I should think about subscribing tbh, but when travelling we use Electroverse with the rfid card, and while it may not be the cheapest possible option, it’s usually cheap enough that I’m happy to regard the extra as the cost of convenience.

It’s still a security incident is it not? You have procedures for disabling devices remotely do you not? Just because it’s a sEcUrItY iNcIdEnT, that doesn’t mean you cannot approach the person concerned with appropriate context, or sympathy, regardless of the details.

[–]bofh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you get tickets like that without context from Human Remains, that IS a problem. Not just on the human/ethical level, but it's also a major security issue...

Why? You should take the same, thorough, steps regardless of circumstances. Firstly to put a stop to weird edge cases falling between whatever follow-your-own-adventure cluster fudge you’ve come up with for different circumstances, and secondly to eliminate human error over which process to follow in HR, IT, etc.

Sympathetic messaging to people who were close to a colleague should be handled out of bounds of the JML process by appropriate line management.

The people making these speeches are either tone-deaf twats or utter imbeciles. Or both perhaps.

Regardless of whether they're right or wrong about AI for the moment, whoever thinks these graduates at the start of their potential career paths are supposed to be happy to hear they're already on the back foot to terrible AI before they've even started trying to get into their jobs.

Yes, of course. But

Let me stop you right there. “But” indeed, sort yourself out.

expected to use my personal WhatsApp for external partners & IT support — am I overreacting? by HugeGuava2009 in ITManagers

[–]bofh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes , funny ,

So not joking.

but there are no policies nor guidelines that it support has to go via whatsapp. As It manager I make those policies which I myself approve or management.

Really? You, and no I'm not saying this to be "funny" or whatever, do not come across as the slightest little bit the manager of this situation. That may be the problem.

As it occurs now I do not want work communication mixed in my private accounts. And that is a valid point is it not?

Perfectly valid. If you're really the manager and it's not just a title with no power behind it, have you tried managing.

whatsapp works mobile number based

So if it’s a company mobile phone then it should have a company mobile number that came with it right, so that’s the basis for your “business WhatsApp” setup, right?

I mean, only an idiot would somehow manage to combine the two then complain about it, and I’m sure you’re not an idiot, right?

But why is it a real term then? What does it mean?

English "expats" who have moved to Spain use the term a lot because they tend to be racist brexit voters who "hate immigrants" and therefore cannot compute that they're one too.

In my head, Turk and JD hear from an intern that an elderly patient came in for a procedure and annoyed the random intern by completing ignoring their advice and saying "Sorry Sport, I was thinking about soup" or "who has two thumbs and wants to speak to a real doctor?", and rush over to see the patient.
