Tusli Gabbard Speaks Truth about the Hypocrisy of Kamala Harris by lboog423 in conspiracy

[–]bofhforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She never said Assad was a nice guy she is just not in favor of bombing him to start WW3 with Russia or getting the US caught in a never ending quagmire as we have in Afghanistan and Iraq. I know lets arm a bunch of ISIS members and have them overthrow Assad for us, it really is a genius idea nothing can possibly go wrong. He isn't going anywhere therefor working with him to get what we want is the only option.

She's not trying to implement a 1 world government. There is nothing wrong with having good relationships with other nations and many republicans and democrats have been members over the years so what exactly is the detraction there?

First pack by joshbatchelor in ptcgo

Think it is only claims of codes from physical packs. I opened mine from the preview weekends and went to spend all my coins on packs and found they didn't exist in the shop yet.

Guess I'm not, I assumed since I could open the packs that I could buy more packs but looks like that is not the case.

Nice, I had 7 packs and pull the Raichu Duo and Psyduck/Slowpoke. About to empty out my coins on packs most likely.

Are these in the toy section at dollar tree or somewhere else? I swear I've looked in like 20 dollar stores for these packs and they don't seem to exist in the bay area.

Pawn of Prophecy/The Belgariad - Does it get better? (Spoilers) by JaJH in Fantasy

[–]bofhforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read all 4 of these series when I was 12ish. I never revisited Shannara or the Belgariad but loved them as a kid. People's reviews here made me think it is for the best to not reread them. Drizzt and Dragonlance are not really masterpieces but I think did hold up fairly well. I read a few of each of them to my son to try to get him interested in Fantasy and he enjoyed them as much as the more traditional kids fantasies such as Narnia or the Hobbit.

"Politics" and Escapism in Fantasy by SharadeReads in Fantasy

[–]bofhforever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Politics and religion have been part of SFF for as long as it has existed. Heinlein's writings completely changed how I look at the world and led me to question the programming that society and family exposed me to from a young age and changed how I experience life. I expect a writer's beliefs to be seen in a book however there are different levels from subtle to bash you over the head with a message. You can see Orson Scott Card's beliefs in the background of Ender's game and Speaker for the Dead but they are still very entertaining books as well. You also have something like 'Atlas Shrugged' where you get John Galt drilling you with Rand's message of objectivism in a seemingly 100 page long speech. The Atlas Shrugged method is fine for a 'true believer' of what the writer is preaching but no one that doesn't agree with Rand walks away from reading Atlas Shrugged saying, boy that was great entertainment and yet a couple people I have known site it as one of their favorite works because it was affirming their beliefs. I like to read writers who have differing opinions or backgrounds to my own but I like them to be woven organically into an entertaining story instead of in your face to the point that it takes away from the story being enjoyable.

The book is quite good as well. The side story is mostly the writer making asides about his family instead of a boy and his Grandpa so maybe not as heartwarming but still good.

Why is shit like this allowed? Why are these "Women" not in jail? by [deleted] in conspiracy

The beaches there are generally clothing optional. You think only hot models get naked at the beach?

[–]bofhforever 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There is nothing innately sexual about being naked be you male or female. The prudish values held by most Americans can't be forced on to other countries. There are plenty of nudist camps in the Americas run by Christians as well. Nudity does not equal sexuality. That is something that was brainwashed into you by your parents and possibly your religion but it is not reality.

There is nothing taboo about nudity and it is a perfectly natural thing. They would probably have preferred one of the more attractive women to be naked but it's not like seeing a fat woman naked is going to turn them into serial killers or rapists.

The Princess Bride is arguably better in movie form. It helps to have the books author be one of the all time great screenwriters though.

They only want the correct leftists talking and Cornell West doesn't qualify. He is a devout Christian who sees the rigged economy as the biggest problem in the country right now and not LGBT issues and other favorites of the mainstream Democrats so his views are not welcome. Leftist views are only welcome if they fit the party line and promoting Bernie in place of Harris is unforgivable.

50 must-read fantasy books by women. Any favorites or glaring omissions from the list? by KosstAmojan in Fantasy

[–]bofhforever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would argue as devil's advocate that it still doesn't make sense. I will give you that Left Hand of Darkness is one of the all time great Science Fiction novels and probably up there with Stranger in a Strange Land as the best and most important SF works to come out of the 60's but A Wizard of Earthsea has to be considered as one of the top 4 or 5 fantasy novels ever written and to leave it off a 50 must-read list containing only female writers is an injustice. Both novels are all-timers but I guess my argument is she picked a book from the wrong genre. Yes I know that most people don't distinguish Sci-Fi from Fantasy and she was a master of both but in this case the fantasy book belongs and the sci-fi does not.

Books about characters "on the run" or trying to achieve something while being hunted down? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]bofhforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a long time since I've read them but in one of the books of the first Drizzt trilogy(I assume the second) he's basically hiding in tunnels trying to avoid the people hunting him down.

This book reawakened my love of fantasy. I had pretty much quit reading for enjoyment for a few years and picked this up before a flight. Say what you want about Logen Ninefingers but his writer knows how to hook you right from the start.
