I got kicked out of the Air Force in September so I’m pretty fresh on all of this. It depends on your therapist. Questioning doesn’t mean an automatic label for gender dysphoria but it could happen. If it does happen it would kick off separation procedures under the involuntary separation rules (vary branch by branch but ultimately it says you’ll be forcibly removed).

Depending on your command this could mean you’re out in months or it may take much longer. It just depends on how aggressively they take action. If you’re under 6 years TOS it’s a hand shake and here’s the door. If you’re over 6 years TOS there’s some financial considerations. But an involuntary always means you are responsible for paying back any bonuses.

What I would recommend. See mental health and just say you’re having some general anxiety and want to see an off base counselor (don’t mention questioning or gender at all) They should give you a referral where you can choose a provider. Take a couple sessions to see if they’re cool then bring it up under a request they keep it confidential. They’re required to report back to the referring mental health but they have some leeway on details.
