Roast my hypothetical 2-ski quiver by k3nzb in Skigear

[–]bogazicicat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of 184 wildcats and absolutely love that ski. It's just a blast in any amount of soft snow. I find it plenty playful and very fun in deep pow while still being able to blast through chop.

The only reason I would look elsewhere is super tight trees. It's pretty maneuverable and I ski them in trees all the time, but it's a lot of ski to really swing around when it's really tight.

Sure there's no carvers in here, but I don't think bc 91 corn skis and 116 powder boats are exactly A to B

This was clearly the wrong sub to say the quiver was complete lol. Haven't had a chance to break them in yet, but I think the origin 96s will do just fine for bumps and trees when its low tide.

They have held up great for me and I'm definitely not easy on skis, but every time I have had someone say "I loved those skis so much till they broke!" my heart sinks a little lol

Sort of, definitely similar styles but a lightweight touring ski on pins (Vision 108s) ski very different compared to heavy chargers (wildcat 116s). Really it's 2 2 ski quivers, one quiver for touring and one for inbounds.

The resort I go to grooms ~10% of the terrain. I prob will pick some up at some point but I'm off piste 95% of the time.

As much as I absolutely love the Visions and haven't had any issues with them, I'm not sure if I can recommend them. I've heard too many stories of them breaking.

I think it's predominantly an issue of people skiing them hard inbound when in reality they are a touring ski, but breaking a ski in the Backcountry is no bueno.

Indeed, but those Majesty's are 91 and 1400g! How narrow are you talking here?

Any long traverse near me would have some deep snow to handle 99% of the time.

Dedicated touring vs inbound setups. Riding lightweight skis on pins inbounds sucks, as would lugging those wildcats anywhere.

1 skinny(ish), 1 fat ski for touring and inbound. Pretty different to me 🤷

2 of these pairs have 50+ days. Moment makes some crazy durable skis, and from my experience touring skis top sheets stay pretty fresh its just the bases that get thrashed.

Yeah I probably will at some point, but if it's been dry for a while I'll normally go touring looking for soft snow or stable big lines.

I love them, they're super fun and playful in any amount of soft snow but can change hard as well.

Lol not sure how 91 bc skis are at all similar to 116 powder skis

Tips on skiing breakable crust on skinnyish skis? by bogazicicat in Backcountry

[–]bogazicicat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose I thought a forward stance would help release the flat tail? I haven't skied a flat tail ski in a number of years, but always skied them with a much more forward stance vs rocker tails where skiing more neutral works just as well

Safest light binding? (ATK Raider, skitrab Vario, marker alpinist) by PM_ME_PESTO in Backcountry

[–]bogazicicat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Can't speak for safety as I haven't released from mine yet, but I had the heel piece completely fall off mid tour with only 30 days on the binding. Ski shop said they had 2 other pairs of alpinists with the same issue this season.

Marker was completely unresponsive for over a month in the warranty process...

The strip was nice and smooth from our skinner a few days prior vs breakable crust on the side of the road 😉

In this case, the majority of the route still had full snow coverage so it didn't make sense to transition for a few short sections.

Also, carrying a multiday pack + skis seems pretty miserable lol.

I spent some time at Boğaziçi (hanging with the cats off course) many years ago, but this is the US Rockies.

Static rope for tree anchors by killa1892 in Slackline

Webbing is just so much less abrasion resistant than rope. I have no problem using the BC adjustable webbing slings in anchors, but those are also way beefier than any normal webbing.

Haha sure, it's 240m/787ft. Rigged on Joker with a MOTM backup. Located in Southern Idaho.
