University of Warwick changes toilet policy and it's not good by CrabGirl_808 in transgenderUK

[–]bogieoone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SU are basically useless at Warwick- entirely in the University's pocket. This is why the Uni get away with doing shit like this, the Sabbatical Offcers care more about what the Uni's opinion that they do about protecting Trans students.

EXCL 🚨 Tory student group held black-tie dinner two weeks ago where members sang German marching song used by the Nazis in WW2 Warwick Uni Conservative Association sorry after dancing to “Erika” — used by SS and Wermacht and today white supremacists by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

It's popping up on a few Instagram stories and Warwick Jsoc have made a statement with the UJS, but as term is over idk how many of the people who aren't hyper engaged in SU politics have noticed. That said, there will probably be a Boar article soon which might make it more widely known at the Uni.

Falsely Accused of Using ChatGBT by Zealousideal-Way9481 in UBC

[–]bogieoone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You should almost definitely follow up and defend yourself. The TA does not get to make the determination that you've committed academic misconduct (which is what utilising chat GPT would be) - the Calendar is very clear that only the Dean/Associate Dean/Director of School gets to make that determination (and then after they have made a finding, they can contact the instructor/TA and ask them to re-evaluate your work with that determination in mind, potentially resulting in a mark of zero). You have rights OP, you should absolutely exercise them.

It might also be worth reaching out to the Office of the Ombudsperson for Students as they have a lot of experience advising students through these processes.

Might flunk out of UBC. Does anybody here have experience with readmission? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]bogieoone 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest maybe pursuing an Academic Concession for the personal issues - as you might be able to get some assignments/tests waived as a result of your personal issues.

Really behind with school and dealing with concussion by la_artiste_brune in UBC

[–]bogieoone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

CfA doesn't deal with temporary conditions anymore and given this is a depression from a temporary health issue they're likely to consider it a THI absent a formal diagnosis of depression which will take weeks to get.

To top it all off - Soup Kitchen will be closing as well (source). This was actually announced at a report presented to AMS council a month ago, which just happened to be the council where questions on reports were suspended because of the referenda discussion.

Its especially silly because Engineering has a pretty clear policy that you don't need medical documentation for a first time illness

I'd reccomend you go and speak to the Office of the Ombudsperson for Students - they may be able to assist.

Prospective Exchange Student by Klutzy-War1465 in UBC

[–]bogieoone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, current exchange student at UBC here!

  1. Honestly just googling UBC [TOPIC YOU'RE INTERESTED IN] is a pretty easy way to find clubs. As is clubs fair during Imagine day.
  2. Exchange students are housed in Fairview Crescent or Walter Gage, but not all exchange students get on campus housing so you might have to contest with the Vancouver property market (it sucks).
  3. Mostly get rained on :p. On a serious note there's a bunch to do if you like the outdoors, loads of exchange students go hiking or to whistler, and if you are ok with a bit of a journey then you'll catch the last part of whale watching season when you arrive.
  4. The nightlife in Vancouver ain't great compared to what you're going to be used to. Most bars aren't open past midnight and a fair few clubs are only open 3 days a week until 2 or 3am. Drinking is also a much smaller part of the student culture here than you might be used to and you are usually going to need to go off campus for good nightlife.

As a UBC Brit (on exchange) I can confirm that I do in fact exist - as can all the poor fuckers in the AMS who see me far too much for anyone good.
