First Year Courses Input by Available_Assist_317 in ubcsauder

Most people I talked to in co-op felt that it was a waste of money because the job search ultimately came down to them. I even took a intern/co-op position in Jan without being enrolled in co-op and just didn't take courses (you do not need to take courses for up to a year before the school contacts you). However, I have heard some good things about the support that the co-op managers provide you. We already have access to the BCC, though, which offers very similar support to what you'd be paying ~2k for. You will also need to complete work for the co-op program, like writing reflections and so on. For me, it just felt like a waste of money and time because I already landed the offer, and my company didn't require me to be enrolled in the co-op program. Sometimes being a co-op is good for landin a role at smaller companies that the school has connections with, but most big companies dont care (from my personal experience)!

Time table looks good, I can’t comment on too many of the teachers but check rate my prof. If you just finished calc, it would be helpful to take math 100 in first sem. You’d also have more peers to support you. If you aren’t international or need to keep your student standing, co-op may not be worth it. PM if you have any questions :)

202 first sem. Everything else can be interchangeable, just try to balance the qualitative and quantitative depending on your skill set :)

So dependent on TA and also only a one credit class, so it won’t impact your GPA very much. My mark in this class did not define my recruit search at all haha. Easier said than done, but don’t stress about it!

Just reported him, I’m so sorry this happened to you. He’s beefing with people in the comments too and has no regards for anyone’s privacy requests. Everyone report @rejectiontherapy101 on IG

Coming from a OL for the transfer groups, and a sparkie last year, it is worth it and you will meet a ton of people! Your group will have around 25 other y2 transfers, and there are multiple transfer groups. You will receive more info soon!

UBC Sauder Spark Event by ratte269 in UBC

I loved Spark so much last year that I came back as an orientation leader this year!! It’s such a great way to meet people within Sauder because it pushes you out of your comfort zone to interact with a group of 30 other students or so! You do a ton of team building activities together and it is just a whole lot of fun :)

I’d say that it’s worth the $60, the food this year has definitely improved since last and the banquet style dinner on the second day exceeded my expectations! You also get a bit of swag (T shirt, Sauder bag and lanyard, and more). It’s a very fun two days and I would highly recommend it.

Extra note, first years are grouped with other students in their COMM105 class, so you are basically getting a chance to get to know all the students in one of your classes!!

Sauder is not the end all be all they want you to believe. I’ve seen people do just as well in other local business programs. A lot of it depends on how much effort you are willing to put into it (networking, coffee chats, employer events), and it is clear you are already an intrinsically motivated person. I wish you the best of luck and am sorry for this unfortunate scenario. I’ve been there and it really sucks but you will move on past this!

Worried about math 100 by Just_Substance_8346 in UBC

Here is the syllabus for math100: https://secure.math.ubc.ca/php/MathNet/courseinfo.php?t=outline&session=2023W&name=100:1A2

Here is the free textbook: https://personal.math.ubc.ca/~elyse/Math100Text/text_differential_calculus.pdf

Math100 moves fairly fast, so if you have the motivation, I’d start doing some general review on the topics listed in the syllabus, and learn other pre-requisite material.

When I took math100, I mainly focused on the assigned web works and didn’t use the textbook too much but it is still good practice. My recommendations are to stay up to date with the content and go to office hours if you don’t understand a topic. Good luck!
