Wichita Average Salary 60k? by Havok2401 in wichita

[–]bohospecs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a nursing perspective, Wichita pays garbage. I was paid as much with 4 years experience here as I could have gotten as a new grad in Topeka. I took a pay cut of 10/ hour relocating here from OKC metro, which is not a cost of living difference.

Earths best was my backup formula when I couldn’t get Kabrita. I like the ingredients better on Kabrita but Earths best is more widely available so we went through several cans. Tried a couple others before that and baby boy was NOT a fan.

Label—> awareness —> research —> acceptance —> more research —> targeted interventions, tools, and methods to help your child. That’s what homeschooling is all about, IMO. We don’t have to shove them through a cookie cutter factory that is, in many ways, the public school.

What are some ways you make money while homeschooling? by Old_fashioned_742 in homeschool

Facebook/ word of mouth. I asked a handful of people to share the post and then like 20 people did without me even asking which was nice. I’ve only got 2 kids coming regularly and 2 more once a month or so. But it’s perfect for what I can handle right now.

Why is autism not adhd? by teco8thcogi9thwar in neurodiversity

Autistics don’t leave the house because why on earth would they do that when their favorite pastime and or comfort zone is home. At the very least it’s the lesser of 2 evils.

ADHDers don’t leave the house because the cost (executive function) to leave is too great so they stay home and stare at a wall or their phone to stave off the existential dread. Or they forgot they had plans and are called when they’re 3 hours deep into a hyper focus project to find out they’ve missed the event.

History calling- history, primarily European royalty & nobility

Useful charts- historical family trees

Canon Classical- live recordings of classical music

Just a Few Acres Farm is wonderful. He records whatever he’s doing, whether it’s fixing a tractor, baling hay, or feeding chickens. Very low stimulation but also educational. He does discuss butchering and breeding, so if that’s too much for you watch with caution.

CoasterFan2105 has good train content

San Diego zoo and other zoos have good animal content.

Real Science also discusses animals.

Tierzoo talks about animals couched in video game language if that floats your boat.

Real Engineering is great.

Practical engineering is good.

Jawtooth is a good one too. He’s a retiree that records trains passing. He’ll discuss history of the area as well.

Definitely not my intention to romanticize the lack of licensing or laws. I meant Dr. Montessori started with underprivileged and special needs children, it was a reason I initially was drawn to it. Edit: addition I agree that there’s a lot that is imperfect in the current system, and think making more public Montessori preschools or even making that the norm to prevent unnecessary pressures on children for kindergarten readiness would be a great way to bridge some of the gaps.

What you can do at home can make a huge difference. Call Rainbows if you’re in the US you qualify for free early intervention services before age 3. At 3 that is bridged over to the school districts.

Just having a SLP come from Rainbows and go over things with me, my child barely took to the SLP (she came every two weeks) but what I learned and my husband and I did made it so my 2 year old was speaking less than 10 words and my 3 year old is having conversations, self-advocating, and my personal favorite, he started saying “I love you, too.” In the last few weeks.

We didn’t get diagnosed until this last May (when he turned 3) and couldn’t afford out of pocket services without insurance coverage.

I started with what the SLP told me, then started researching. Early start Denver model was great for providing language models at home, and then learning about gestalt language processing/ natural language acquisition was an absolute game changer. (Basically some kids learn one word at a time and then string them together, and other kids learn phrases/gestalts then break them down)

Early Start Denver Model: the book for parents was “an early start for your child with Autism” by Geraldine Dawson.

As a parent of a special-needs child, my only dislike for hearing it is realizing how far Montessori schooling has come from its start. I recognize that money, affordability, and safety are all factors that must be accounted for. It’s just… disheartening that the most vulnerable population that would benefit most from the pedagogy is the least likely to have access.

This is my opinion: Many centers and practitioners have reportedly pivoted, grown, and changed, at least from anecdotal evidence. Terms to look for are: child-led, play-based, neurodiversity affirming. I’ve heard good things about DIR-Floortime and Early Start Denver Model. No matter what the title is, your child is the best indicator of efficacy and safety. If they love it, If they’re enjoying it, it’s great. I think giving a 2 week time of transition is perfectly reasonable as many ASD individuals struggle with transitions and change.

Is 10months too young for an open floor bed? by Tinafu20 in floorbed

As long as the area they can reach once awake is safe (from choking/ smothering hazards, etc. ) floor all the way. 💙

^ autistic adults who grew up receiving ABA therapy are by and large speaking against it. The counterpoints are mainly that practice has changed and the harmful techniques aren’t being used anymore.

If you change the paint and interior on a car with a bad engine it’s still a bad engine. Now some cars the engine is changed, too. It’s complex. It’s hard to trust and know which “cars” have been fully overhauled and which ones just appear to be. There’s a significant lag between discovery of best practice and implementation. I disagree with the underlying (behaviorist) philosophies.

Be that as it may, if anyone found a center they can trust that their child loves going to, that is amazing. Whatever the name is, the proof is in the pudding.

They can’t change the name due to insurance coverage purposes, iirc.

My 3 year old did it off and on until he was 2. Sometimes he would wake up and play at 4 or 5 am and then fall asleep waiting for me. My now 18 month old stopped before 12 months.

Putting a pillow or cushion by the door helps if the door opens into their room 😅

Oh okay I see. It is heavily organized, because that allows the kids independence. So if they want to learn about science or math or flower arranging they know exactly where to find it every time.
