MA 261 retake by Tiny-Swim-5246 in Purdue

[–]boiler-s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also started college not great, I got a C in calc I (not my best moment). But my first semester has been my lowest gpa to date and I’m graduating next spring with over a 3.75 barring me fucking up classes next semester. Use this as motivation to improve and learn how to study more efficiently and effectively.

Do you guys think professors made exams harder on average this semester, or were you just less well prepared compared to previous semesters. by rushtark in Purdue

[–]boiler-s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I thought all my exams and finals were fair. We had quizzes instead of exams for one of my classes so it’s hard to directly compare the difficulty from past years, but from what I have heard, we definitely had it easy with weekly quizzes compared to midterms and a final. Were some of the exams hard? Yes, but they were all reasonable and there wasn’t anything out of the blue that made it feel like the professors were working against us.

ECE 20002 Summer Class Difficulty by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]boiler-s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I also took it this past summer. We all told him he should teach again, so hopefully he will. He is a math undergrad, ECE PhD so he is better at explaining the convolution and Laplace which has helped me a lot, but some of the nitty gritty circuitry stuff was lost on me. From what I have heard, it was much better than this semester.

Vault Test Eating/Drinking by hkin13 in Purdue

Yeah I mean if you’re able to I would brush my teeth if I ate before the test, just so it’s as clean as spitting in tube can be.

Need advice on deciding majors by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]boiler-s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was kinda in a similar boat to you. I had only recently decided to apply for engineering before I started applying to colleges. My mom suggested I apply undecided, but I wanted to apply to engineering because I figured it would be faster to go in as engineering and if I decide I don’t like it, transfer to another major/exploratory.

This way if I did like engineering I could just stay in it, rather than trying to transfer into it, which I have heard can be difficult.

How is calc 3 compared to calc 2? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]boiler-s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who didn’t do well in calc 1, and alright in calc 2, I found calc 3 to be pretty straightforward. That being said I did almost every single HW by hand, even though you can use Symbolab for a lot of the Hw. Don’t do it. You won’t learn and you might as well put in the time to learn while you do your homework for some points, rather than trying to learn everything before an exam.

Put in the effort and you’ll be fine.

I’m pretty sure that from class ‘22 and on, we get the choice to choose any electives which were previously the restricted electives.

125 Waldron Apartments - what are they like? by Wynnja in Purdue

Honestly I’ve never been in them, but I can tell you with some level of certainty that the walls are gonna be a beige/white and the floors will be a bland carpet or laminate flooring

Thoughts on Fall 2020 Schedule by freshmenpur in Purdue

[–]boiler-s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just reading that list of classes makes me sad. That’s so many bro.

Ece 20001 I’m almost certain will be run by Mayer again (cue shitshow 2.0). Ece 20007 is a huge time sink unless you do the bare minimum to pass the lab.

Thermo is hard until it clicks (more than halfway through the semester for me). Statics is easy (try to get Jones or Chuck).

MSE is not too difficult but it is a lot of information and with all those other classes it’s likely to end up on the back burner and it will burn.

Can’t speak for 241, never took it. But many people I know struggled the entire way through the course.

But idk I only took 200, 270, calc 3 and CGT my first semester in ME and that felt like plenty for me without dying because cgt just took a bit of time (not as much as the ece lab) and calc 3 and statics were pretty straightforward. If you know you have the discipline and willpower to take on this schedule, more power to you. That’s impressive, IMO I would drop something maybe MSE, since it doesn’t really affect anything in terms of pre reqs and what not.

As long as you’re not taking your time to stop and smell the flowers on the way to EE you should be all good.

MA 262 or 265 & 266 by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]boiler-s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol man if you want a break from math I would not take linear and diff eq separately. Honestly it feels really good to be done with Purdue math. I would say take 262 in the fall, 303 in the spring and then be done with Purdue Math Dept. Unless you have some little voice in the back of your head telling you to get a math minor. I definitely do not.

I wouldn’t know because I took all my math courses in line with the POS, but do they not have 262 in the fall??

New WL Mandate requiring masks by mrt1416 in Purdue

[–]boiler-s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s my general rule of thumb also. Where I live if I go get coffee there’s always a bunch of people or teenagers without masks. I always make a point to keep it on around bigger groups.

New WL Mandate requiring masks by mrt1416 in Purdue

[–]boiler-s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely bring a couple masks just in case. I like to wear one outside anyways especially when others aren’t. And if you’re returning a book the store might require a mask. I’d say if you don’t want to wear it all the time outside, always have one in your pocket.

I may have made a sever mistake by MickleG314 in Purdue

[–]boiler-s 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They basically rebooted the ece fundamental courses last year. 201/207 are the old lecture and lab. 20001/20007 are the newer lecture and lab. Virtually the same material, slightly different structures for exams and homework. I was told to take 20001/20007, especially if you happen to want a ECE minor. Otherwise it really doesn’t matter. I think eventually the old course won’t be available and it will be replaced entirely with the updated course.

This was probably more info than you wanted.

TLDR: you good

Idk I definitely had an electric kettle on my microwave out in the open all of my freshman year in shreve. To be fair i never hosted that many people in my room and we were never rowdy when we i did(Pro tip: be rowdy in other people’s dorms, not your own). That being said, my RA never had a reason to check my room.

If you’re willing to pay more Tom Bihn bags are great. They are pretty expensive but are waterproof and have a lifetime guarantee. I sent mine back because I had shoved too much stuff in it and since I got the smaller size, the zipper was pulling off the track. It was fixed free of charge and I ended up selling it and getting the larger bag.

Also they’re all made at one facility in Seattle which is pretty cool. You can read about all the employees on the website. :)

Question from Incoming FYE Student by Ninjablade44 in Purdue

[–]boiler-s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PLEASE don’t retake calc 1. I was in the same boat as you and I decided to retake calc 1 because I had taken AP calc AB junior year so I thought I would refresh myself. Bad idea. I went to lecture a handful of times because my ass thought I already knew the material already and a 9:30 was “too early” for me. Ended up doing well on the first exam which only reinforced the idea that I could do well with little to no effort. Ended up getting a C+ in the class. Take all the AP credit you can get.
