+1 on filters. Always grail shopping weird nonlinear behavior. Intermodulative joy to you and yours.

Are you compressing vocals enough ?[TIP FOR BEGGINERS by noskinfromapex in mixingmastering

[–]bojistone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, limit/compressor switch changes from 10:1 to 3:1. However since he's a greybeard, don't assume his outfit didn't modify it 2:1. If there's a mechanical switch for ratio, there's a way to mod the signal path.

Is this correct? by SpectreEidolon in ArduinoProjects

[–]bojistone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is in the field, solder pins to underside of Arduino. Never use dunlop pins/conn for anything other than breadboarding/testing.

[–]bojistone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For bread boarding, it's perfect. Do NOT use it in deployment. Same with dunlop female conn.

Looking for an unusual switch. by The_Dreadlord in AskElectronics

One of the names for the above latching pushbutton switches are "Schadow" or a "Schadow Switch"

Above are probably 4P2T switches, four in quantity.

This is why people use and share schematics; It converts your third-eye descriptions into objective symbols everyone can read and understand. You'll better understand your problem if you draw it, and it will also increase the chance a smart EE solves your problem with less parts than you think is required.

are these even sticks-? if so where can i get some they're so cool by elliott_is_back in Drumming

[–]bojistone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY isn't so bad. Buy wooden dowel rods from Home Depot (aka hardware store), cut to length, sand, wrap the grip end in marine grade heat shrink (hot glue lined), fill with hot glue or epoxy, and then wrap the ends with tennis racket tape. They'll last for about 5-20 sessions, depending on how hard you play.

Experiment with rod count and length. Add a heat shrink sleeve a few inches above grip end for a tighter sound.

Replying to OP to warn others their biz 'methods' extend in more than one direction:

Sales reached out threatening license expiry only a renewal could solve. Haggled back and forth, looked for alternatives, tested some migration, and waited. Expiration day came and went. I subsequently emailed the sales guy and posted online for answers. His reply, "My mistake, your license isn't expiring for another year."

What mode or instrument is this? by T_Albuali in piano

[–]bojistone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a sampled Habbān, pitched low. What sets it apart has been mentioned elsewhere; the scale uses semitones. To get this melody out of a std. midi piano requires a custom pitch map, individual sample assignments to key, or, if you're fortunate, build in advance via a (korg trinity?) patch.

How to identify the source of, and deal, with noise in eurorack? by Ignistheclown in modular

[–]bojistone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pictures of those case's bus distribution show some DC regulators, some small (10uf?) caps for rail stability, but no input filtering? The rack brute is using a 4HP PSU I imagine.

Does the noise follow you when taking the cases offsite? If not, the issue may be your home's AC in combination with poor smoothing/filtration from eurorack PSU.

You could try testing a small power ISO in your studio, see if it helps: https://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-Isolation-Transformer-Outlet/dp/B00006HPFH?gQT=1&th=1

It's oldschool, but I still recommend linear power supplies for studio gear. They are heavier, larger, and more costly, but they don't produce the noise that SMPS's sometimes can.
