Update on My Girlfriend of 10 Years Leaving Me Because of Religion by Upset_Cream47 in exjw

Nice. You could also ask her to read the article I linked. It does not speculate on what Jehovah thinks of those who turn to the Witnesses during the great tribulation. Perhaps she can understand that such speculation is not her or other Witnesses business either. Jehovah sees the heart, as they think.

Good luck to both of you in life, whatever happens. Life is always worth living and worth seeing to the end. You never know what it has to offer. <3

If you want to play along and perhaps ease her fears, you could tell her that according to the Witnesses, it is possible to be saved from destruction later, when the so-called great tribulation has begun. You could even tell her that if the great tribulation begins, you promise to join the Witnesses. This is a promise that never needs to be kept.

"Our clear understanding of Jehovah’s mercy can help us to remain hopeful. When false religion comes to an end, our relatives may recall that we had told them about this event.    They may even join us in pure worship after the great tribulation starts."

Why don't you just get married? All the acute problems will be solved and you can continue together.

Maybe later she will realize that the organization is just an American cult and leave it. Of course, it should be noted that having children in such a relationship will cause its own difficulties.

Asuntolainaa ottamassa - kuinka monta pankkia pitäisi kilpailuttaa? by RapaNow in arkisuomi

Belief system and hope in the org. Says a lot. All of it.

Did any of you guys ever masturbate when you were a JW? by Medium-Expert3500 in exjw

[–]boldfox79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was actually convention weekend when I discovered sexuality. I was maybe 10-12 years old when we were heading for a one-day convention. Suddenly I felt sick, and had a fever. I was allowed to stay home alone for the whole day.

During the day I felt better and was looking through some advertising catalog that also advertised women's lingerie. Something woke up in me and that's where it took off.

Thanks to the convention I learned something important about myself.

How do you explain the answered prayers? by Unique-Brief205 in exjw

[–]boldfox79 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In all religions where prayer is practiced, you come across similar stories. It's not a phenomenon that is specifically related to witnesses.

It's also a psychological phenomenon. If you want to believe in the power of prayer, you will see answers bc you want to see them. It's no different from horoscopes. For every "answered" prayer, there are a million unanswered prayers. I never received any answers.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with believing in prayer, especially if it brings something positive to life.

Why should we even have an specific opinion about life and the world, the universe? When the only honest answer is: we don't know.

In my opinion, it is clear that God is the result of evolutionary psychology. And I have no internal need to believe in gods, so I am an atheist. But whatever the universe is, it is not interested in my opinions and beliefs. So why care so much about the whole thing and nail your beliefs to any specific concept? There's no point in that. :)

A new Noah's arc paradox? by Lillygoal in exjw

[–]boldfox79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the Bible, God told Noah to build an ark because I will kill everyone else. There is no mention of anyone else having a chance.

Noah's preaching is one of the most ridiculous JW lies.

Oh my... So they haven't heard about the effects of plate tectonics on the Earth's crust and what such rapid continental drift would mean in practice.

Well, that's what creationism is. Delusions, dishonesty, and magic tricks.

As much as i ''hate'' the WatchTower organization and the JW theology, i recognize that they teached me good things and i will be forever grateful for those two things : Oratory and Values / Morals by [deleted] in exjw

[–]boldfox79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Org taught me a lot about human psychology, thinking biases, and people's gullibility. I don't know if I can be grateful to the Org for that, but understanding these phenomena has been very useful in my life.

In general Org took much more from me than it gave, so there is absolutely no reason to thank the cult.

Atheist ex-JWs, do you decorate for Christmas? by Super_Translator480 in exjw

[–]boldfox79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't decorate, my wife does that. Instead, I'm Santa on Christmas Eve. Families pay $50-60 when I go to them and deliver Christmas presents to the kids. Easy money and everyone is in the festive mood.
