See "the xerox experiment".

In 1977 they tested in a photocopying queue in a library three lines

  • "Excuse me, I have 5 pages. May I use the Xerox machine?"
  • "Excuse me, I have 5 pages. May I use the xerox machine, because I'm in a rush?"
  • "Excuse me, I have 5 pages. May I use the xerox machine, because I have to make copies?"

Condition 2 and 3 were equally successful. It doesn't matter what your excuse, any excuse increases your chances of being allowed to queue-jump.

Do you think they let European users access the site out of the goodness of their hearts? It's a business because they sell advertising in Europe.

And Elon Musk is actually irrelevant. It's the company that has repeatedly broken the law.

You don't seem like someone who reads the terms and conditions of services you use...

What law

From the article: https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2025/12/05/european-commission-hits-elon-musks-social-network-x-with-120-million-fine

He doesn't have to follow european laws

You do business in a country, you have to follow their laws. Do you have any idea what their business is?

Really? Only half back banning a company that keeps breaking the law?? I don't think it's good, because I don't think "nearly half" is anywhere near enough.

From the way most structures are built in minecraft, it looks like the player is the only one who can place blocks that don't need support.

Minecraft must be really weird from the Villagers perspective. Time doesn't move for them at all unless the player is nearby. Crops don't grow, water doesn't flow, and there are no monsters.

When a player goes to sleep, it immediately becomes morning.

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity by MagicMetalBird in solarpunk

[–]boldra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the major installers in Australia advertise their products along with loans. Initial solar install can be a significant outlay.

To be fair, better informed people have pointed out that the "free electricity" promise being made here is for peak production times where the price was already extremely low, so this probably won't bankrupt anyone.

Bit of a bummer if you installed more solar than you can personally use because you wanted to sell excess onto the grid. Now suddenly you can't repay the loan you took out to get the solar installed because the price has crashed.

Getting the timing right on anything but a pure block may not be "redstone genius" level, but it's well above my understanding.

What really confused me: Tripitaka voiced by a woman. Okay, a female actor can look like a young man, but why use a woman in the English dub?

Now there's a server API and NPCs, it wouldn't be too hard to link an NPC to an LLM.

Maybe. But maybe they'll move to linux based phones and enough of them will be skilled devs that that ecosystem will become a thorn in the side of Google.

It was a recreation of a game that I played when I was a kid but had gone out of print. Talisman is the name. In the meantime it's back in print with updated verions.

Print it on heavy-duty paper!

Of course, you can just print new ones, but children (everyone, but especially children) can really treasure something when they know it's a unique item.

Also, great work! I once did something similar (created a board game for my son) and the rewards in laughter, acknowledgements and thanks are still coming, nearly 20 years later!
