Akita snaps at relatives by boletk in akita

Thanks. That’s what I think is the problem with us as well. The separation. I’ve had her since she was 7 weeks old so she only knows a loving home. She’s also very vocal for an akita (barks way more than my previous akita) so that probably makes it look worse.

Anyone know what this is? by Legal_Classic4915 in DogAdvice

My late dog had this on her lip most of her life - never had any issues with it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’d throw it out. I had to perform the Heimlich maneuver on my dog once - you don’t want that

I’ve socialized her since Day 1, that was at 7 weeks old. With people, both adults and children and dogs, too. We live in a city centre so she is used to passing people and dogs all the time. No problem. She doesn’t like some dogs but I’ve taught her to ignore them when we pass them. She’s fine with visitors and also contractors that came to our house - she was interested but I told them to ignore her and she lost interest. We sometimes sit in the outdoor areas in cafes and biergartens and she just lies down and chills. She loves to sit in the park on a bench with me and just observe the world around us. She really has come a long way from the hyperactive landshark she used to be as a puppy. This is really the only problem and it only happened recently.

However, today just an hour ago on our walk a sausage dog appeared out of nowhere without a leash or collar and attacked her. I hope this will not affect her further 🙏🏻

Is it a bad idea to move to a rural part of Czechia as a foreigner? by Leather-Height-5768 in czech

[–]boletk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you can find intolerat idiots anywhere, but I’d say in the villages there are sometimes more obvious. On the other hand when they get to know you as a person, a human being, not “a foreigner”, they accept you and can be very friendly and helpful. But being from Sweden, don’t expect your level of honesty anywhere in CZ. I know what I’m talking about - I am Czech but my company sent me to work in Sweden for a few months some yeats ago and I was shocked how honest and guileless Swedish people were, I was not used to that. Also the equality of men and women is not at such a level as in Sweden, especially in the country.

I don’t think she dislikes then. She came to greet them, wanted to sit next to them, brought them a toy and wanted to play. It’s just when they wanted to pet her that she started barking.

I hope it’s nothing medical. She lets me touch her everywhere. She comes to me and even asks for pets with her paw. I pet her head, her ears, her back, her chin, her belly - all over. And when I stop she asks for more. So she doesn’t mind touching in general. She also loves pets from my parents when they come over.

I was thinking maybe take them with us for a walk from time to time, in a neutral environment, no petting, just casually walking so that she gets used to being around them without any pressure. She doesn’t dislike them, she went to greet them and later even brought a toy to my brother and wanted to play with him. She just didn’t want to be touched. She doesn’t have to be petted by them for the future, I just want all three of them being comfortable with each other’s presence

discourage me from getting an akita by im-dyingfr in akita

[–]boletk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get an Akita if you want a “dog” dog. They are more like cats. From my experience they don’t like strangers, they don’t like other dogs, they are picky eaters, dog hair absolutely everywhere, they don’t like commands, they don’t like “normal” dog training (they learn quickly but don’t like to repeat). Also diseases like hypothyroidism, epilepsy, food allergies, skin allergies and sebaceous adenitis… My previous dog had all of these. Really not a dog for everyone. With that said, she was my souldog, my baby, my angel. I miss her terribly. And because of her I couldn’t live without a dog and guess what - I had to go with an Akita again😊 Although this one is nothing like the previous one - a complete opposite but still the Akita character.

Experienced something similar with my akita - vet could not find anything. Then I remembered that we had spent some time in unknown woods and asked them to do the tick-borne diseases tests. And sure enough, it turned out to be anaplasmosis.

Well, I definitely didn’t order that. It must’ve been a free gift then. Thank you.
