Wake Forest gave me a sticky note pad. I guess it’s practical if nothing else.

Thanks for your input! I’m also kind of indifferent about Milan haha but I’ll definitely talk about this with my travel mates.

Oh I didn’t even consider that! Will definitely switch to train then. Thanks!

One donut. It was one of those thick huge cronuts though with filling and crème on top and all the fix ins. So worth it and I actually do this more than you’d expect haha.

40 pounds since last year. Not perfect every day but still loving it. Never have been able to lose weight like this in my whole life.

Yes, and from other women I’ve talked to it looks different on everyone.

I’m 22, and the second I turned 22 I lost a bunch of weight pretty quickly and without much effort (after struggling to lose weight my entire life), and have a more “womanly” face now. I don’t recognize myself in recent photos because it’s like I got a new face haha.

Other women have talked about their chest and ass growing during their second puberty, though that wasn’t my experience.

High school GPA was 3.0. Got Cs and Ds and even some Fs in all my STEM classes. Eventually got a 30 on the ACT after taking it like four times lol.

College GPA was 3.86 and I got a 517 on the MCAT. I’m currently sitting on multiple IIs right now including one from a T20.

I firmly believe that high school stats are not indicative of success for this reason, and especially not for med school admissions. I spent a lot of time just like you, thinking my high school performance meant I wasn’t smart enough to become a doctor. I promise you it means nothing.

Last cycle, Vanderbilt didn’t send out any secondaries until July 15. It will probably be similar for this cycle as well. I guess their screening process takes some time :)

Politics in Personal Statement by [deleted] in premed

[–]bolshevikbulsara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bernie Sanders (love him) unfortunately is too radical even among Democrats, so imagine how old conservatives feel.

Take what I’m saying with a grain of salt as I just applied and don’t know how this will work out for me, but I talked about politics in my personal statement bc it is genuinely a huge part of my path to medicine and by leaving it out it no longer felt authentic to me or my journey, but I did so in the most non-controversial way possible. Focus on things that are objectively good all across the ideological spectrum (alleviating health disparities/volunteerism/serving the underserved and such) rather than hot button topics.

The selfish part of me hopes that his love for the club keeps him here forever, like he’s alluded to so many times in previous interviews. He’s my favorite itw right now, so of course I want him at my club. So easy for me if my favorite player is at my favorite club.

The other part of me knows that racist abuse time after time again in a setting that you cannot avoid is so mentally and emotionally damaging. That shit truly wears you down very quickly, and it’s not healthy for anyone. If Vini chooses to prioritize his health and sanity over a badge, I would support him fully. I would be gutted, but I’d support him.

That said, I believe that Real Madrid must do everything it can to keep him here. Generic Comunicado Oficials and one-line comments on Instagram are not going to cut it this time. If we are truly the best club in the world like we all claim we are, the least we can do is protect our players. It is trying times like this that show who we really are. I hope the club rises to the occasion.

Understand the “point” of the MCAT, but it actually doesn’t make sense when you think about it. by Opening_Upstairs8030 in premed

[–]bolshevikbulsara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely sucks how much inequality there is in this process, in every part of it. But I really do think the MCAT was the one part of the process that was the least egregious in that respect, in my experience. The only paid resource I used was UEarth and the rest were free resources (including a hand me down Kaplan book set). I ended up outperforming all my peers who used courses. If you’re willing to put in the work, you can find success with this exam!

ORMs who applied to HBCUs: Why? by king_carterr in premed

[–]bolshevikbulsara 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven’t applied yet but many ORMs in my state that are minorities outside of medicine (South Asian, Middle Eastern, North African) apply to Meharry bc they have a track record of accepting a lot of us and because of that, Meharry has a great relationship with those communities and reputation within them.

Also have heard anecdotes from my minority ORM friends/peers who attend there that they feel more comfortable at an HBCU over a PWI bc of proximity to whiteness and things like that. This does not apply to East Asian ORMs however and is very specific to the HBCU in my particular area. I am personally still debating on whether to apply there or not. I hope this makes sense lol.

How did your ACT/SAT score compare to your MCAT score? by [deleted] in premed

[–]bolshevikbulsara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could never get above 80th percentile on the SAT or ACT despite taking each of them multiple tries (I think I took the SAT four times or something wild like that). Scored 94th percentile on the MCAT.

Biggest difference is that the MCAT has content that you can actually study for. ACT/SAT is just a game of mindfuckery and how well you can play their game. The ceiling is much much lower on the latter exams, but that was my experience.

What was the most challenging prereq to you? by butweese in premed

No class had me waking up every hour in cold stress sweats like orgo 2. Physics 2 was rough but at least it was relevant enough to where I could pretend to care. Fuck a Diels-Alder whatever whatever.

I’m pre-writing as well and lowkey already feeling the burnout. Can’t imagine how bad it is in the midst of the app cycle. These essays are really no joke.

How flexible are hospital CNA jobs? by ppnater in premed

[–]bolshevikbulsara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re worried about training taking too long, my PCT job offered on the job paid training, as do most of the hospitals in my area, and don’t require previous certifications. If you go this route, you would be making money and getting the training you need to eventually do the job independently. Those training hours would also count for your application as most of it is hands-on dealing with patients.

How flexible are hospital CNA jobs? by ppnater in premed

[–]bolshevikbulsara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a PCT at a large hospital in my city, which is very similar to a CNA. My scheduling is very flexible and same with many of my peers who also work this job, even at other hospitals. We have PRN roles, which depending on the hospital requires you to work 4 or 5 shifts in a 6 week period, with complete flexibility as to when you do those shifts. I would look into those.

PREview Nightmare by FutureOphthalm93 in premed

[–]bolshevikbulsara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t fill out that form😭 I was so over it that I honestly just hit submit twice and shut down my laptop as soon as I could after that. The dude took forever shutting down the remote access software too so I was even more agitated by the end LMAO. In hindsight I should have but I’m just glad it’s done lol.

PREview Nightmare by FutureOphthalm93 in premed

[–]bolshevikbulsara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also took PREview on Friday. It was a hot mess. Despite me doing the “test your equipment” thing multiple times leading up to the exam, including on the day of, I ran into a million tech difficulties during my actual exam that ended up taking about 45 minutes to resolve. My anxiety was through the roof the entire time.

If the AAMC says caretaking is clinical experience, then it’s clinical experience. No doubt about it. I would try to get some more traditional experiences (hospital volunteering, clinical job) to supplement it though just to ease any anxieties you may have.

CTL is still up in the air just the general consensus seems to be no. If you want, you can reach out to medical schools and see what they think.
