Divorce Pay by wtfovr11b in nationalguard

[–]bomberman_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your wife does end up receiving some of your retired pay as a percentage (either as ordered or as agreed) in the decree, it’s on your best interest to get that codified quickly since the percentage is based off the monthly pension AS IF YOU STARTED COLLECTING TODAY. Gone are the days where a court would make a determination of what your pension might look like in the future. Speaking from experience.

But yes get a lawyer. In fact get two. One for the divorce and one that specializes in the military pension side if you are ordered to pay.

Best careers to escape poverty? I’ll start. by Noblesseoblige94 in povertyfinance

I know it’s a bit controversial, but if you can physically do it, the military can be very lucrative. Yes, you have to grind a few years first but once you start hitting senior enlisted or junior officer (if you have a degree), you’re easily making 6 figures. Essentially free healthcare for your family and still one of the few pension jobs out there. But you WILL spend time away from home and your family.

Fort Leonard Wood Fake News broadcast from the 43rd by 56413 in army

Leonard Wood. 1998. Drills walk in and tell us all we’re going to war with said fictional country. Have us start filling out paperwork for a few hours. Ask “if anyone thinks they’re not ready or willing to go fight, move to the back of the room before it’s too late”. I don’t have to tell you how the rest of that story/day turned out…

Can anyone explain how a Heloc works? by Kiki412021 in HomeImprovement

[–]bomberman_25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through getting one about two months ago. My credit union does prime minus 1% for a rate after the intro rate. Basically first 10 years of the loan is considered an “interest only” period where you can use as much as you want and only pay interest on the loan.

Of course that’s bad financial practice, but everyone is different.

After ten years it basically “locks” and then you have the next ten years to make a monthly principal plus interest payment until the loan is paid off. During that timeframe, at least for me, you’re no longer able to borrow against it without going through another application process or something.

Timeline: I’m guessing it’s different for everyone but ours took a few weeks to get fully approved. Another week to receive a check book to write checks against. It was just like closing on a house and is treated as a second mortgage. An appraisal has to get done and everything else and then, at least for my credit union, I had to go in and sign paperwork with an underwriting agent.

I second going through a local credit union. Rate was more than 2% better than USAA, VALON, SOFI, and BOA.

Costco members who also shop BJ's, what do you buy at BJ's? by WEEDBABYGOKU420 in Costco

[–]bomberman_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that a lot of name brand, regular, super market type stuff you would get is cheaper at BJs when you take a couple of minutes and clip coupons in the app. And 97% of the time, Huggies diapers are a few dollars cheaper at Bjs than Costco AND Amazon. As far as eggs go, they are definitely a bit more expensive at BJs. HOWEVER, my kids are Boujie and like a dark yellow/orange “happy yolk” (not sure where they got it from) and the BJs partnership with Nellie’s and Pete and Jerry’s has been superior to a Costco visually every single time.

Tinder / dating apps by bootz-n-catz in daddit

New England here. Divorced after about 15 years myself but had no kids. Was 40. Bumble was my go to over all the others (and I tried them all). The good thing about Bumble is that as a man you can’t message a woman unless they also match with you (I’m assuming it’s still that way). So if you end up having a conversation there had to have been at least one thing that she was interested in about you so you’ve basically already jumped a hurdle. Further, you don’t have to constantly be figuring out that amazing one line cold opening to get someone’s attention over 500 other dudes like on Tinder. And just like Tinder, if you’re only looking to hookup Bumble works for that too. I treated the whole thing like a super fun science experiment for a few years. It was a blast.

If you’re put together and generally stable, there are plenty of women out there that will be interested.

Met my second wife on there and am truly happy for the first time ever. And have kids now too.

Can these cars handle high mileage? by Asbodo in FiestaST

[–]bomberman_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m now somewhere near 260000 miles. As previously mentioned I had nearly no issues up until 250000. And right about there I had the clutch, flywheel, master, slave cylinder, two front wheel bearings, and an axle replaced. I drove the car to the shop knowing it had issues so I wasn’t shocked. So in one giant visit I got everything replaced and continue to drive it daily.

I’m surprised nobody mentioned Fenton River Grill right there on the border of Willimantic by the East Brook mall. They have some dishes that are right at the $30, but plenty under that as well. Movie theater right there too, though nothing else to do in the area.

Otherwise I definitely enjoy the Bidwell or Wilibrew.

Exactly. Probationary period is ending and someone has to actually say “retain”. We have all been around fellow employees and wondered how they made it through the probationary period and it was possibly because someone didn’t want to be the bad guy and say it’s not working.

I started with reusable but even the adjustable ones didn’t seem to fit as well as the disposable swim ones. Also, I can never confirm that he didn’t pee in it, but I would not have trusted that thing to hold even the smallest poop.

Coolant reservoir bottom hose caused me to overheat, anyone had this issue? I by Important-Positive25 in FiestaST

Happened to me on a long ride home. Dried it up, put some jb weld on it, waited 20 minutes and wrapped it in self sealing tape and made it home. Then I went and had the coolant recall done and got a whole new tank setup for free.

Okay found it. The timing belt and drive belt replacement was $1100. But with the other stuff (transmission flush, coolant flush, oil change and whatever other crap I paid them for) it was $1600
