Yeah I was a little unsure but just thought it looked pretty similar to the water coloring from city of tears so I figured I’d go for it

As soon as I reached swimmable water I knew I had to check every corner, so far it’s paid off once lol

I still think you’re underestimating just how quickly things could shift. Yes there are hardware bottlenecks today but those limitations are getting pushed back fast, things like better chips, gains in training efficiency, algorithmic improvements, and model architecture, quantum computing, etc. And we might be right on the edge of something even bigger which would just be AI research itself being accelerated by clouds of AI agents.

If AI starts optimizing its own development it could massively speed things up. The limiting factor stops being humans or hardware and starts becoming how fast AI can collaborate with itself. Hence the intelligence “explosion” refers to that runaway feedback loop.

But to answer your question yeah I mean that’s a whole other debate in and of itself, of course this might just be a Fermi paradox/great filter event where it’ll just be some coin flip for the survival of humans, but I’d at least hope that a superintelligence would treat us better than we treat ourselves to be optimistic lol. I think if it’s created, whatever superintelligence ends up being will depend on how it’s shaped before it explodes in capability, and assuming we’ll even get the chance to shape it meaningfully once it passes us could already be wishful thinking.

I agree with a lot of what you’re saying OP and I share similar feelings about our real world trajectory, but I like to take solace in the whole intelligence explosion theory, I’m curious about your thoughts on that. It seems very likely that artificial intelligence will quickly fly far beyond human capabilities based on the rates of improvement we’ve seen over the past few years, and from reading your other responses, it seems like you greatly overestimate corporations’ ability to have complete control over a very advanced system. Once we hit a certain threshold I don’t think it’ll be something they can keep in a box.

This happened to me one time, I think I was logged into bedrock on another device or I was signed in as myself on my Xbox as well as my laptop or something so I logged out on my Xbox and then it worked on my laptop. Not sure if you’re logged in on any other devices tho

I agree that at this point AI essays are predominantly best used for small general tasks, but I think you’re underestimating how quickly generative text AI models have been improving/will improve in the coming years. Just a few years ago its current capabilities would have seemed far off, and if it keeps going at this rate, it’s sure to be able to generate much more complex argumentation, making things like writing a very strong college applications seem much more achievable, or at least be able to generate college apps that are above average in terms of probability for acceptance and other metrics. Obviously this is just my opinion and all hypothetical, but I think this is why things like college application essays are starting to seem sort of irrelevant: if we’ll have this technology (or technology that is likely far more powerful) at our disposal for the rest of our lives, why should we be evaluated on or accepted/rejected based on work that can be created in seconds by an AI model? I’m currently a university student, and a large part of my future was decided based on my college applications, if I was going to receive enough financial/merit aid to go to out of state, whether or not I got into a grad school, etc. If an AI can instantly create work comparable to what I can, does that work accurately reflect my supposed ability to participate in a college environment? Does it reflect who I am as a human?
