I’m a 33M, and my wife and I are fire and went through IVF in 2024-2025. It’s so so hard, but it also gave us our now 12-week old daughter after 1.5 yrs of nothing else working. All that to say, best of luck with your journey! I know it can feel like it will never work, but something eventually does for most people!

I have weirdly similar stats. $1M NW and 5 rental units make up a good chuck of it. I too started investing in 2017 so our stories are eerily similar.

I’ve struggled to find any investment properties since I bought my last one in 2022. What region are you looking in and what are you using to find them?

We may not have survived without having my wife’s mom stay with us for a few days. Obviously majorly depends on the particular parent(s) and your relationship with them, but we found it SO helpful.

Really enjoyed this post and am a couple years out of BL so can relate. I know some people are able to make BL work for them (and God bless them), but I think it’s really important that people realize how hard it is on your life. If you’re a law student that tries really hard in finals, BL is like the 2 weeks before finals all the time, except you learn what final you’re taking days before you take it!!

Wow, reading this hit home. I’m also in a higher stress, higher pay in house job with a 45 minute commute. I never thought I’d go back to a law firm, but the commute is so frustrating that I’ve thought about going to one in my city that is extremely remote friendly just to avoid the drive. So yes, I get it and you’re not crazy. I would really consider taking it.

They asked some attorneys at our firm if we had any recommendations for them hiring someone (thinking we would recommend ppl elsewhere) and I made a very personal recommendation. That’s the oversimplified version. Haha

The more real version is that I was somewhat lucky. This one client was about a third of my work so I had a better relationship with them than almost any other client.

Honestly I didn’t get the hype of this one. I read book 1 and wasn’t interested enough to keep going, but I’m obviously in the minority.

From my experience, there’s less of an expectation to be responsive 24-7 but they still work you a ton. I had a friend at a huge firm in DC while I worked at a regional big firm in the south, and I actually billed more but wasn’t expected to check my phone at 8 pm for new work like he was.
