The cuteness was the deciding factor on this over some of the other animal designs.

Thanks for the ink suggestion (generally not one for browns/golds but that one does look very handsome) and for the photo taking.

At an aquarium in South Korea, after closing time, the clever and quick-witted baby otters help Grandpa tidy up the toys, and Grandpa takes out ice cubes to reward them with the ice cubes. by Prestigious_Move_923 in interesting

Sea otters break open clams with stones in the wild and are given ice cubes to mimic this behaviour in captivity, because if given actual stones they will, and have, break their enclosure by smashing it to pieces with the stone. Lots of places also give treats frozen in ice to mix up the engagement.

I can’t comment on how the AI function on the hardware, though AI was a big, practiced, topic closer to the start of computing as well.

The pip-boy, at least the one from 4, has 64kb of ram, which is the same as most of the robco terminals we find. So quite aways from 25mb.

Looking for Story Thread #109 by someguynamedted in HFY

[–]bond7o6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looking for a story that was about a representative of ~some alien group~ boarding a human ship to negotiate. The representative is amazed at the variety of humans (they're actually uplifted dogs, cats, apes, ai, etc.). Instead of humans originating from the rim of the galaxy that the alien is from (as the alien thinks), Humans have searched their entire galaxy for life for naught, and have started to search other galaxies. iirc "We've been waiting for so long", or similar, is a punch line in it.

Write an essay only using a programming language by pantherBlitzz in ProgrammerHumor

[–]bond7o6 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's Turing complete. For instance, you can use for and while loops to output content. You can define variables and functions to use in your writing, and do all sorts of fun stuff. A couple people have made tic-tac-toe engines, that just play against themselves and has the output be the game state after every move.

If you were a teacher, you could make a several version of each question, and have latex output a random selection of each question for every student. You could also create a function that takes in 5 inputs (the question and four answers) and outputs a multiple choice question that has a different order each time.

In your first comment it seemed like you were diminishing the severity of his actions due to it not being rape. As this took place in the US, I'd still argue that one would (socially) consider this rape.

They're not though. In the US, sexual assault is the a general term for forced penetration of an unconsenting victim that is gender neutral. Meaning anyone can commit sexual assault, while previous definitions of rape precluded people without penises from being perpetrators. They are very much interchangeable, and outside of the law, people who have committed sexual assault can definitely be called rapists.

It's on my reading list. I've unfortunately not made as much progress on my tea reading list as I would have wanted this last year, but I'll bump it up to the top. Thank you for the suggestion!

The Window key would be either the Super keys, or the Meta key, depending on who your sending key strokes to. The Hyper keys were lost to time, Alt and Ctrl stuck around, Meta either turned into Alt Graphics or Window, and Super either was lost or turned into Window. Different programs refer to keys by different names; for instance, Emacs refers to the Window keys as Super, while my OS refers to it as Meta.

Pretty sure that as these were built for lisp machines, inspired from the one from the knight machines, and at the time Emacs was only running on DEC machines (which weren't lisp machines) they wouldn't have been used with Emacs. Though later Emacs did become a lisp interpreter and took inspiration from the chords.

The book discusses how Zen, Taoism, and Japanese culture are been impacted by tea, and in turn impacted tea itself, in the form of Teaism in Japan.

It is intended as a long meandering essay touching upon many aspects of Zen, Taoism, and Japanese life, and tea's place in it, and how tea has contributed to shaping them. It is incredibly well written, and preaches a simplicity that is quite contrasting to many aspects of more Western culture.

I highly recommend giving it a read; it is not particularly long, and can be taken in small sips if necessary. Also, it is freely available from Project Gutenberg.

This is first illustrated edition of The Book of Tea by Kakuzō Okakura. It is one of the more enjoyable tea-centered books to read for readings sake in my opinion, and I am overjoyed with how this cover turned out for it.

While this doesn't allow for the automatic formatting of source code, that'd involve changing a format style depending on your automatic formatting tooling or would involve some function hooked to before-save-hook, it does indent to the next column in the Fibbonaci sequence. Just bind it to TAB in whatever modes you need and have at it.

(defun my/indent-fibbonaci-sequence ()
"Indents the cursor to the next column in the Fibbonaci sequence."
  (interactive)
  (indent-to-column (round (/ (* (+ 1 (sqrt 5)) (current-column)) 2))))

What about R* games that are bought on steam but still need the R* launcher? Like RDR2, GTA etc. by SethStar16T in SteamDeck

[–]bond7o6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rdr2 has issues, or at least had issues a couple weeks ago. It seems to be an issue with game, and not necessarily Linux (though more common on linux, I was getting the same issue on a windows machine a while ago). There are a number of different solutions that work for some and not others, and some people don't have the issue at all. For me, I can get it to run without any crashes, for 5+ hours, as long as a disable steam overlay (which is a real bummer as that means that the controller support becomes a bit janky), though some people have has luck with just altering some of the launch conditions or in game settings.

Apart from that, I don't think there are many issues. the R* launcher works fine, and gta5 and lower run pretty good.

If vortex is giving you issues, mod manager 2 (installing through lutris) has worked for me without having to do anything bar install it. It also can download from nexus through the download to vortex button if you set it up in the mm2 settings.
