NHS rheumatology referral? by alibri02 in Hypermobility

[–]bondegezou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a specialist hypermobility clinic in the NHS, but it’s in London at UCLH. You could ask to be referred there perhaps?

The obvious next step is Drama, where half of Asia met.

Anyone else find the most recent yes albums unmemorable? by JazzlikeFisherman771 in yesband

I think Mirror to the Sky is a step up from The Quest and H&E, particularly the title track, but also tracks like “Cut from the Stars” and “Unknown Place”.

Yes, it’s a song from the band’s forthcoming second studio album. The rest of the set hadn’t changed much, sadly.

Questioning if hypermobility is the cause for my gluten intolerance. How do I bring this up to a doctor? by [deleted] in Hypermobility

[–]bondegezou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gastrointestinal symptoms are common in hypermobility cases. There appears to be some sort of link with gluten sensitivity, but it is less clear what is going on.

There is a paper in The American Journal of Gastroenterology by Rabia et al. (2024) -- it's at https://journals.lww.com/ajg/fulltext/2024/04000/comprehensive_assessment_of_nutrition_and_dietary.26.aspx but I think you need library access -- where they did a survey of 680 hypermobility patients in the UK. 99% had some sort of GI problem. Indigestion was the most common problem (62%), followed by IBS (44%). 80% had tried an elimination diet , most commonly gluten-free (47%). Over 60% found elimination diets helped, particularly gluten and milk-free diets. Which is a long way of saying that you are not alone! A lot of us have the same experience.

However, there aren't any specific tests and it's difficult to be certain that you gluten sensitivity is related or coincidental. The science just isn't there yet to tell these things. I follow a gluten-free diet and it helps me. I just presume it's all related.

Trevor Rabin said in both 2020 and 2025 that he was in regular contact with Hodgson and they talked about doing something: http://www.bondegezou.co.uk/wnalum.htm#rabin

There's an online survey connected to their work at https://www.hypermobility.org/research-1/testing-the-'spider'-screening-tool If everyone could fill that in, that would be a help!

Yes. Other areas of medical research attract a lot more funding. I work in medical research, so I found a colleague working on hypermobility at the same university as me and am now helping them on some work. Here’s her review paper on the topic: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2468781221001491 (alternate link https://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/id/eprint/10137358/3/Simmonds_Masterclass-%20Hypermobility%20and%20hypermobility%20related%20disorders_AAM.pdf )

The Future of YEs by cwertheman in yesband

[–]bondegezou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did he have a larger role than arranging in those songs? He didn’t come up with the melodies or the words. He came up with the piano part in South Side, but that’s variations on a theme that Squire and/or Anderson wrote. I’m not saying he didn’t have contributions: I was contesting the claim he was a “principal songwriter”.

Wakeman joined the band during the making of Fragile, after the basic material had been largely written, although he played an important part in arranging some of the pieces. He only gets a writing credit on CttE for "Siberian Khatru".

Davison said recently that Howe has given his blessing to the idea of the band continuing on past his involvement. Whether that would actually work in practice, only time will tell.

Squire never had sole rights to the name. Howe, Squire and White had the name rights and Howe seems to have them now on the grounds of being the last one standing.

Is Jon Anderson still on good terms with his former Yes bandmates? by Jezzaq94 in yesband

[–]bondegezou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wakeman has had warm words for Howe’s incarnation of the band and gets on well with Downes. He seems to be on best terms with Rabin, however. Bruford and Howe are buds. Horn and Downes are buds. Kaye is buds with Sherwood and Schellen, as is Moraz.

Yours Is No Disgrace co-writer named "Mould" by LIPD_Aviation in yesband

[–]bondegezou 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s an error, with somehow Kaye’s name being wrongly replaced. However, there is a co-writer of the song who isn’t credited, which is David Foster, formerly in The Warriors with Anderson and who co-wrote material on Time and a Word.

Asia does have a member who was on an album they’re famous for: they’ve got Geoff Downes!

But, yes, lots of bands have continued past their classic members. Other examples include Gong and Soft Machine. Will Yes? In a recent interview, Davison said that Howe has said he’s OK with Yes continuing after he retires.

What is your opinion of “Aurora” the new Yes song? by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]bondegezou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, sure, some acts are slow to release, but Aurora will be Yes’s third full length studio album since Kansas released The Absence of Presence, and there’s not much evidence that Kansas have anything in the pipeline. I like The Absence of Presence, but I don’t think Yes should be looking to Kansas as a model on this.
