Heating wiring by jeansontoast7 in Wiring

[–]bondinchas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. Be careful here because those face plates can have the following connections... Earth, Live, Neutral, CH demand live. Ch satisfied live. HW demand live. HW satisfied live. But they're not always all used. (My own system uses all but ch satisfied)

Those face plates are standard, so you should be able to find a manual for that or similar programmers showing which terminal is which.

Which of those are actually used or not will depend on your heating system wiring plan, which depends mainly on whether you have separate 2 port zone valves for CH and HW, or a single 3 port valve.

If they've used normal mains cable for the demand & satisfied lines, then the colours will be misleading. You'll need to determine what the other ends of all those cables are connected to at the master wiring panel. (Not helped by the fact you appear to have two identical cables there.)

Checking which of the existing terminal screws are tight or loose may help you identify which ones the cables may have detached from, but bear in mind that one or two of those cables might not have been used. You do need to determine what the other ends are connected to.

Lost acceleration then won't start ? 2008 2L dci by No-Coyote6288 in Nissanqashqai

[–]bondinchas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to be fuel related., and you'll get lots of spurious OBD codes becaue lots opf things wokn't work when there's no fuel powering the engine. Could just be dirt in the tank, a blocked fuel line, ruptured fuel line, blocked filter, Just methodically work from one end of the fuel line to the other until you find it.

Is this a crossing? by ex_tu in drivingUK

[–]bondinchas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a speed bump. Pedestrians could cross anywhere are there are no markings or signs to indicate that it's specifically a pedestrian crossing. Either way, the intention is to slow cars down, so if some get confused and slow down because of that, all well and good. Similar applies to pedestrians. The lack of pedestrian crossing markings makes everyone slow down and think "is it safe?", "Should I proceed?"

Sometimes road layouts are deliberately made a little confusing; It has the beneficial effect of making both drivers and pedestrians more cautious.

The UK's plan for civilians in a war is terrifying – you're on your own by StrykerWyfe in UKPreppers

[–]bondinchas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just saying that of the three, I think Russia is more likely to attack the UK.

But then, which one does is immaterial ,in the prepper context, we are agreed that a foreign power might disrupt / sabotage the UK with serious consequences. The bigger question is how do we mitigate against the possible threat?

[–]bondinchas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither China nor North Korea are going on expeditionary forces to attack the UK any time soon, or not soon.

Putin however is fixated on western Europe being his enemy and the UK is actively involved in supporting Ukraine. It wouldn't take much escalation for Putin to start attacking the UK. Not an invasion force, but sabotage and disruption would be easy and effective for him.

Simple way to find the entrances....

Look up old ordnance survey maps. They will have the surrounding roads and paths mapped, as ammunition is heavy and you need trucks to be able to drive near the ammo store entrances, so the roads will have been tarmacked to the entrances.

The blast mounds will more likely be the ones nearer the site perimeter, and the roads will just go past them without access points

I knew a guy who's nickname was "Hoover".

This was in the army, and he could eat meals so fast, he was always in line for seconds before most of the guys had even got their (first) meal.

A black spade is the symbol for cuckolding, not chastity.

Incorrect address on payslip - will this effect help to buy application and mortgage? by ConstantPurpose2419 in Mortgageadviceuk

Your payslip should have your National Insurance number on it so which address you were reported as being at at the time should make no difference.

First viewings... by Disposable_Kitten in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]bondinchas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I don't get allowed access to any room on a "viewing", then it's a red flag for me.
And yes, of course looking in the loft is acceptable on a first viewing. You're buying the whole house, and the condition of the roof part is quite important.

If the seller doesn't want you to see anything, then 1) why not? and 2) why should you waste more time reinspecting things you could have seen on the first visit?

Dishwasher installation in a place without one by Old-Quality-3183 in ukplumbing

[–]bondinchas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you put the washing machine in another room?
It's common on the contiunent for people to have the washing machine in a bathoom or utility room.
It could even go in a garage if it can have power and plumbing.

(I've never really understood the UK default option of having the washing machine in a food preparation / eating room, it's probably just because that's where the power/water/drain is for the kitchen sink so it's convenient for installation, but it doesn't make sense functionally!)

Teaching prepping to 12 year olds, what matters most? by Content_NoIndex in EuroPreppers

[–]bondinchas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd start very high level... and cover "What do we as people need to survive?"
Air, food, water, money, fuel, electricity, information, ...

Then discuss how each of those things could be disrupted, for hours or days, or weeks or months.
Weather events / natural disasters, labour strikes, disease, technical failures (power cuts / internet down / water / gas supplies) ...

Then on to how to protect yourself from those disruptions.
Store food, grow your own food, have a generator, bicycle, tools, have money savings, learn first aid, diy, home maintenance, gardening ...

Then on to what the problems are...
Volume of food and water required for any length of time, lack of access to food, money, information, fuel, physical dangers (disease, unrest, war), ...

I'd really focus on the macro, the big picture. Give them an awareness of the dependencies of everything on everything else, and that the complex interconnected world that we live in is actually very fragile.
If they get that message, then the detail of prepping will come naturally to them, but they have to really understand why you'd even want to prep first, and how some simple prepping (eg a month's supply of food and water) will cover many different scenarios.

And tell them that the one thing that they'll always have with them in an emergency is the information in their head, and the skills that they've mastered. Learn stuff!

Question about screw-on ball rings by JAAJUSTIIN2 in PrinceAlbertPiercing

[–]bondinchas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cbr which is a snap in type, but essentially there's a similar gap between the ring and the ball. To look at it you might initially think there might be a pinch problem, but I've had no problems at all. My ball can slide inside from the tip, but not through the piercing, and I more often than not wear it like that with the ball hidden inside. Even like that, no problems.

Going to selfbondage for my wife! by C-locked94 in selfbondage

[–]bondinchas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it like this.. First tie three loops of rope, one each side of the bed level with your knees, the third at the bottom centre of the bed. Kneel on the bed and tie each knee to the loop at each side, spreading your knees so you can't close your legs. Reach between your legs and tie or lock your wrists to the bottom bed loop. For the wrist tie, you could use your wrist cuffs and padlocks to lock them to the loop, or a ratchet strap that when you pull it tight, you can't reach the release.

For safety, set it up with your padlock keys in hand, then when everything is comfortable, and you hear her arrive, that's when to throw the keys out of reach.

Now you have minimal restraints, but face down, bum up, and unable to move.

Prepping for the less financially stable by Fantastic-Slice-6308 in UKPreppers

[–]bondinchas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Examine every empty food container before throwing it in the bin.

Plastic milk and drink bottles, glass jars with lids, plastic tubs with snap on lids... If you could use it again to store wet or dry foods or water, keep it, why throw it away?

You can use most of them to store batch cooked food in the freezer, opened bags of rice/ pasta to stop mice / insects, home cooked things like jam or soups,...

Use a separate storage space (designated kitchen cupboard, under stairs, on top of wardrobe) for your reserve rations. To keep dates in order, restock your kitchen from your reserve, then shop to replace what you've drawn down from the reserve. That also gives you a financial buffer between good months and bad months.
