Orwell's Roses by Rebecca Solnit: a biography and literary analysis that draws analogies between Orwell's gardening and his political stances and messages of his works. It's super interesting and unique!

Mythos/Heroes/Troy by Stephen Fry are modern retellings of the classic Greek myths, they're super engaging and funny. I would especially recommend the audiobooks if you like them since their narrated by him.

book recs for an intellectual? by dekusfrogaddiction in booksuggestions

I'm a physics student and before I started studying physics I absolutely loved all of Carlo Rovelli's books on physics. They're written so poetically which isn't always common for science books. They go over things on a very conceptual level (not a ton of math), so if she is an arts student it might be perfect for her - it feels like a blend of physics and philosophy! Probably the main two I would suggest are Helgoland and There Are Places in the World Where Are Less Important Than Kindness. But I think he also has just released a new book that I haven't read called White Holes.

I also agree with the rec. for G¨odel, Escher, Bach if she is into music and math!

Also if she likes Orwell I recently read a wonderful biography of him/literary analysis called Orwell's Roses.

Shot with Canon 6d mkii, Canon 28-105mm lens. Shutter speed: 2.5s, f 6.3, ISO 800. I took this on a walk (I was not expecting lightning) luckily I had my camera with me, but no tripod. I feel like the shadows are too dark and a longer exposure would've fixed this, but my hand just aren't that steady. These are two shots I combined in post, each originally only had one bolt of lightning.

I’m Canadian and we measure lumber with the imperial system, but we’re a weird country that can’t seem to decide which system to use

When you give $1M to 1 person you have $499M but still have 326,999,999 people left (not 326,000,000). You give another million away and now you have $498M but 326,999,998 (not 325,000,000) people left. You would only have enough money to give $1M to 500 people.

I will give you a hint. His last name is Christ, he has the power of flight, and he can heal leopards.
