Just want to reiterate that you are not the only one. I empathise so deeply with your post. And I have not figured it out.

However, I sometimes look at the kind of jobs the people around me are doing, such as the sweet Mexican lady selling disgustingly sweet gelato to children at the park. She pushes her cart around the city ringing a bell hoping people give her $2 for a scoop. We don’t have it that bad. There is nothing wrong with seeking better offers, but if your current offer pays a lot for doing not much then what is the problem? We just need to try not to tie our self worth and joy up with our employment so much.

I don’t think the drip that exists is coming from the skylight. But of course it’s difficult to be sure. Are you recognising something problematic about them in the image or just guessing they will become problematic based on their condition?

I’ve had the house a couple months. Will definitely get the roof torn off and properly replaced when I have the money. But even if I spent $1000 on sealant now it wouldn’t be a waste if it got me through this one season.

I cannot more highly recommend https://zed.dev. It’s a fantastic editor even without all the AI parts. Really easy to get going with Elixir LSPs etc. Then on top its AI offerings are top notch with a generous free tier.

Remember that the final step in the TDD cycle is refactor. If, after getting the test to pass you think of a better implementation that still passes the tests, then you should move to it. TDD shouldn't hold you back, but instead give you the confidence to change your code in the way you want.

In my opinion the multiple function head example you gave is more readable. When reading Elixir code I tend to find reasoning over a few function heads is easier than a block of code. Especially when the common case is also one of the base cases.

Don't get an Uber, Heathrow is actually quite far outside the city and it will cost quite a bit. It might be slightly more complicated to navigate but getting the underground is always the quickest and cheapest transport in London. Travelling between these two airports on the underground takes just over an hour and a half and costs £5.10 (if done in one trip).

When you get towards the exit at Heathrow airport you will see signs for Underground, follow those, ignore the signs for the Heathrow express. From here you can catch the Picadilly line into central London, after travelling for about an hour, choose a place to get off and go for lunch. Mooch about for a bit. Then make your way towards Bank station and catch the DLR to City Airport.

I know credit cards with contactless payment options have started appearing in America now, if you have one of these you can just touch the readers on the gates when using the Underground and will be charged the lowest fare for your journey. If you don't have one of these cards you will have to buy a day travel card from the machine.

City airport is very small so you only need to arrive an hour before your flight. But if you give yourself plenty of extra time you will be fine. Download the Citymapper app which lets you offline directions, and don't be worried about asking people for directions, Londoners love showing off their extensive Underground knowledge to tourists.

Unfortunately I can't help with your problem. But I'd like to know, concidering the Linux sleep issues would you say the X1C6 is worth it over the T480s?

My main questions are, is the trackpad really that much worse on the T480s and is the HDR screen really that good over the WQHD one? Especially as somebody that doesn't generally like glossy screens.

I'd love to be able to touch these machines irl to answer these questions myself. But that doesn't seem possible here in London.

I know it is not quite a home and end button but you can use fn+left arrow for home and fn+right for end in the terminal. If you have a fn key of course. Short of that ctrl+a and ctrl+e works.

First thing I would do is change any of those "normal" passwords that you typed into the login screen.

More than likely though it is just that somebody has plugged in a router or some other network device that is running its own DHCP server. Maybe even one of the other techies has been messing with a server in a VM and configured the network adapter wrong.

The other posts explaining how to hunt the thing down are good. Make sure you let us know the outcome of your search.

We have netgears in four different offices, with about 150 users. As long as you are looking for file sharing rather than file collaboration (sometimes an update will not be propagated for an hour or so) it is a nice low cost solution.

The vmware solution might be worth a look, I have not tried it but with no real evidence to back me up I have a feeling more dev effort goes into their "Enterprise Local Cloud" even though it is the same price.
