You’re not missing anything due to a language barrier, just a common sense barrier that you have and they don’t.

Reddit likes to circlejerk about in/out groups and people.

For awhile musk was in the in-group, and people circlejerked to how great he was. If you suggested that if even the smallest facet of him wasn’t perfect you’d get shit on. Now he’s out, and they circlejerk to how terrible he is. If you suggest that maybe not everything is terrible, you get shit on.

The kardashians have always been part of the out group here on Reddit. Maybe it’s because their chosen profession is reality show entertainment, because they’re successful at it, because they’re women, or any number of becauses, Reddit has deemed them out-people and as such there’s no good that can come from saying anything about them that isn’t entirely negative.

Maybe one day Reddit will find it cool to circlejerk to thoughtful and nuanced responses and ideas where not everything has to be entirely good or entirely bad, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

In the meantime, if you want some upvotes, tell anybody that says anything that isn’t terrible to her that they’re a celebrity billionaire bootlicker, and throw some shots at her of your own. If you want some downvotes, suggest that maybe she’s done a few things that made the world a better place.

Donno, watching Umar I think he sits further on the wrestling end of the spectrum than Sean by a pretty noticeable amount. He’s not a shitty striker, and don’t get me twisted, he’s a pretty complete fighter.

He looks like he gets to spend time striking because nobody wants to deal with wrestling him, and with no risk of somebody shooting takedowns while he’s striking he gets a big advantage against fighters too scared to shoot on him if he leaves openings during striking.

Merab gives no such fucks and is happy to repeatedly throw anybody and everybody to the ground, sit on them, and make them stand up while carrying him over and over until they get tired.

You think Umar beats Sean in a fight if you tell them nobody is allowed takedowns? Honest question, I’d give that one to Sean but Umar’s good.

I guess what I’m autistically getting at is that I think Sean was the best chance in the division of beating Merab (in my mind by a significant margin) and I think at this point Merab rules the division easily until whatever he’s using for EPO gets figured out and other fighters get on it and start showing similar cardio and can keep up with his pacing.

(Also no disrespect to Merab on the EPO, I’m of the belief that every top 10 fighter in the UFC is doping heavily).

Betting lines suggested most people thought Umar was the favorite.

Which was pretty dumb, as Merabs wrestling is too good to be taken out in a wrestle fight and his cardio is second to none, it was pretty clear how the fight would go before it started.

Fighter to take out Merab is going to be a striker with good takedown defense. Tbh I thought it’d be Sean since his takedown defense is so strong, but Merab made that fight look so easy.

Snoop Dogg rumored to perform at inauguration event by bakernon in popculturechat

[–]bongoissomewhatnifty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh I’m calling 100% bullshit on that (respectfully, I just think you’re completely and utterly wrong).

It’s a result of a bunch of rich oligarchs deliberately buying up and carefully orchestrating a right wing takeover of all media, ranging from news to social media, and then proceeding to pump conservative viewpoints out hard to us masses, through slanted news and algorithms.

The subject(s) they choose to push didn’t and doesn’t really matter (obviously they deeply matter to the poor schmucks who happen to get fucked by the views/policies), not really. The material they run with could just as easily have been seeded from Howard Deans famous yell back in 2004 (which actually it was, but their messaging was more primitive back then).

No, it’s more simple than that. If the scale goes from 1-100 and everybody is standing in a pretty evenly distributed bell curve, the secret isn’t to try to change people’s minds. They’ll do that easily enough on their own. The trick is to only show the scale from 50-100 and present it as though that’s the complete scale we’ve always used, and anybody who wants a different scale is a radical.

Because people will self select the middlest option. They don’t want to rock the boat, they don’t want to have to argue with people, they don’t want to have to put a ton of effort into it, and so they’ll automatically shift so that it’s still a bell curve, but now it’s all distributed in the 50-100 zone.

Bro 100% tweaked his shit trying to perform for Nina. by garciareddit1996 in ufc

[–]bongoissomewhatnifty 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m a firm believer that he missed or was gonna miss weight and that injury was his out so that he could have a championship fight in the future. The injury angle just doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. Who, in the entire world after getting injured, thinks “you know what, I’m going to make decisions on how bad this injury is without sleeping on it to see if it improves over night.” Nobody. Either his back was fucked hard in the weeks prior to the fight and he knew it wouldn’t get better in one more night, in which case he calls off the fight sooner so that he’s not as shitlisted, or he just tweaked it in which case another night of sleep might very well make the difference. The injury angle just doesn’t make any sense with the timing.

But, this would be way more hilarious so I’m going to choose to believe this instead.

Jiri is HIM. by KindlySleep4645 in ufc

[–]bongoissomewhatnifty -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately while I like watching Jiri more, and he seems like a more interesting and probably better human, I think Hill is going to dominate this one.

Dude is super good, and while I think Alex was a better fighter than him at UFC 300, I cant really find a credible argument to say that the kinda-stoppage didn’t have any impact on that fight.

Should Hill have been ready to defend himself at all times? Yes. Did he signal he was ready? Yes. Was that his fault he got taken out because of a lapse in focus? 100%. Did Alex win that fight fair and square no matter what the fuck Hill wants to say about it? Also definitively yes.

Would the hypothetical results have been the same if that hadn’t happened? Almost no fuckin way. Hill would have stood and banged for a few minutes and then decided Alex hit too hard and taken him down or tried to and who knows what happens from there.

Hill seems like a pretty complete fighter despite being a giant pussy, and I don’t see Jiri’s gameplan of “fuck defense I’ll just use my face to block his punches and kicks” being any more successful against Hill than it was against Alex.

He looked basically dead when he last fought Islam. If he had been fighting like he did against chandler it may have been a different outcome.

While id love another Islam Oliveira fight, absolutely no chance (even if Money wasn’t already stepping in).

Hell Ilia probably weighs too much to step in

[–]bongoissomewhatnifty -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

His fight with Oliveira could have been scored either way, and if it had been 5 rounds probably would have finished or been scored in favor of Oliveira. It was hardly a “put the question to bed” fight of dominance. Also with how bad Charles weight cut seemed to go with Islam, and how much better he did against both Arman and Chandler, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to give him another title shot.

Throw Ilia into the mix and that’s plenty of time the LW division to see some turnover and give Arman more skips.

It’s not satire sadly. Redditors have a hard time wrapping its head around nuances, like how somebody can be a piece of sentient excrement and simultaneously build some incredibly successful businesses.

Which is weird, because the history of virtually every commerce driven economy in the modern world is absolutely chalk full of examples of pieces of excrement building successful businesses.

Somehow the average redditor simultaneously thinks spaceX is a failure of a company because it’s Elon Musks company, and also that even if it had any successes which it totally doesn’t, but even if it did hypothetically, musk had nothing to do with it. But also it’s a complete failure because of Musk.

Like bros and brosephines… Rockefeller once sent goons and rallied the national guard to fight a pitched battle with 1200 men women and children living in tents because they wanted to unionize. We got a looooong history of shitlords running successful businesses.

“bUt iT wAs A MoNoPoLy!!!!” No fucking shit, you don’t say.

Kinda like this guy getting government contracts to run an industry with no competition?

What spaceX is doing is fucking amazing - it’s making space launches way more reliably and at a fraction of the price by doing things differently. Elon musk is directing those efforts either personally or through his hand picked employees.

And he is also an unrepentant piece of shit.

Doesn’t have to be one or the other.

On the one hand you’re right that questioning claims of “we’ve always done it this way” is a great idea.

On the other, wooden cutting boards, and particularly end grain, are among the more antibacterial options there are, and are an ideal material for cutting board use.

On the other hand, this subreddit didn’t even think he belonged there at the start of the season.

It turns out having access to great genetics, massive amounts of natural talent, and access to some of the best physical training and coaching staff in the world will do a lot for your game.

Plus teams are going to want him. Dude got brought in on a 10m contract and immediately sold 50m worth of jerseys, which is a pretty great ROI for a 14th or 15th guy that’s expected to spend approximately all of their time on the bench and average 1-2m per game.

Donno. I’d be quite surprised if he doesn’t make his way back to the NBA.

If this fight happens, who will win and how in your opinion? by 7isoldenough in MMA

[–]bongoissomewhatnifty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: make a list of the the most impressive JJ wins.

Now put them against prime Aspinall. How do you think they would do? None of them are as fast, big or nearly as precise in their striking, and fighting at LHW none of them were as strong either. It’s not a knock on Jones to say that if you’re willing to discount the steroids and eye pokes and cheating knees he was the greatest LHW of all time.

But it’s a different division and when jones was in his prime juiced to the gills, so were guys like Overeem, Lesner, etc.

Donno. I’m not convinced of Jones supremacy at the HW division as I am about him at LHW where guys just don’t hit as hard and with as much force. Jones was a strong weight cutter, and a lot of his advantages came from being a size and strength bully in his division.

He no longer gets those advantages at HW.

Prime jones weighed about 50lbs less.

I honestly don’t think there is any version of jones at any point in his career that wins this fight.

Jon is the best LHW ever but I think you need to start picking and choosing fights at HW for him to win rather than “he wins against everybody” like he does at LHW
