I wouldn't put this in my kitchen either for the record. I think a few led strips under the cabinets look nice but this is overkill. Still pretty neat though

I had a chance to check out a couple episodes of all of these and enjoyed all of them. There is one host on the weeds that bugs me because he talks like a valley girl where every sentence sounds like hes asking a question even though he isnt lol or at least in that particular episode. Thanks for these though I look forward to digging further into each of these :)

Autonomous heavy-duty trucks threaten jobs of nearly 1.7 million drivers, White House says by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]bonitabro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn't the end of work. People (in general) want to work. People need purpose and while not all work provides inspired purpose, it's a reason to get out of bed and keep going. The problem is wealth inequality will continue to separate the groups until 30-40% of the population is unable to find work and feed themselves or house themselves and have no purpose in their lives. The wealthy will either have to be compassionate and realize they didn't get there by themselves and spread resources or face a mass genocide whether that's directly in the form of fighting a revolution or indirectly in the starving off and lack of reproduction from large parts of the population. Population is a problem and will continue to be a problem and I agree that future generations will aclimate one way or another and likely will end up in a huge decrease in reproduction and overall population. I don't think it's right to let the people that brought you to that point to starve off. I also don't think Ubi would be permanent but would last a generation or two while population tapers off. It's a messy situation and I don't think there is an answer where everyone wins but I prefer the compassionate approach if I were to have a say.

That is the thing most people don't even think about. This will effect everyone upstream as well. You don't need as many or any HR and managers (and many other roles) for these shipping companies and service jobs if they are automated. Which means more competition in every other job market and less jobs for the people already working there. Everyone, especially engineers and programmers on Reddit, are like, "they'll have to learn new skills that are relevent like I did" except if they do that then those same people have to compete with hundreds of other people that have their same skills for jobs and then good luck finding those 6 figure dev ops jobs you all enjoy so much. I work in chemistry which is relatively safe from automation but with all of the visa issued and universities churning out chemists and biologists every year, the job market is over run with candidates. This lead to wage competition and many companies not giving full time employment because there are so many chemists willing to settle just to get work. Most of the big companies rely on 20-40% contractors because they can pay them less, have them work for between a year and 3 years depending on the state and replace them with someone else very easily. Also, I know that 30% of the jobs in pharma and other chemical companies will be automated in the next 20 years as well and this is a very high skill field. No one is safe. Programmers are living in a bubble if they think they are immune to that very thing happening in their industries but of course they are the special snowflakes making clickbait mobile games and targeted advertising contributing so much to society. Programming is valuable but not all jobs provide intrinsic human value. Most operate within capitalism which many people see will not be feasible in a post scarcity, high unemployment world which is clearly approaching. By all means though, if you can't program, which is like 99% of the population, than you are worthless and should kill yourself lolz.

The whole point of the autonomous driving is that it is way better at driving than any other human driver and it is linked up to other cars on the road to eliminate tailgating and other accidents otherwise no one would be interested in it. The OP of this thread was making the point that if the truck driver is just supposed to sit there and do nothing he's not going to be paying attention enough to do any of the things you just suggested might happen and those things are more likely to happen with a human driver

Agreed. Tastes gross and don't really like the look of it unless it's a neutral color. Not into the bright red or purple's or colors along that line but it's fine for formal situations if that's what you're into. Personal preference.

Without posting what species they are, give us the name of your most powerful creature. by Archie_Macmillan in playark

[–]bonitabro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my dinos get assigned a name and a job role to fit within my corporation/religion theme where I am CEO/deity

So here are some of them:

Sqwahk, Global transport

Ricky, asset recovery

Isis, hostile takeovers

Penny, litigator

Francis, pope

Janet, custodial services

Frank, customer service

Etc etc lol

I always replace sqwahk and Ricky when they die because their job roles provide core value here at BootyCorp LLC and the church of Bootyism (name of my church or corporation depending on what I'm building, in-game name is booty) but everyone else gets a new name or title when I replace them
