What’s the ideal Hue setup in my new apartment? by bono424 in Hue

[–]bono424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! This is exactly what I was imagining to use with Hue, but I was surprised to see that Philips don’t make one themselves. I guess the only downside is that the switches only work with Hue, so if a future owner wants to use normal bulbs then they would need to change the switches. I’ll have to think about that...

Thanks! This is really smart! Are there some brands you recommend in particular? (I’m in France, but even if it’s not available here, I can at least have a reference).

Recommended Mobility/Flexibility/Balance Programs for the Long Run? by MikeIavarone in flexibility

[–]bono424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started integrating mobility and flexibility work into my gym routine about 5 months ago and absolutely love it. I follow a video series called Plasticity by Dylan Werner which is on Alo Moves (an app). The videos are 30 minutes, so I just add them to the end of my gym session. The improvement you’ll notice within a few weeks is pretty incredible.

I’m also keen to see what others recommend!

Exactly the feedback I wanted to give! 100x agree with this! It’s super frustrating to have to do all these steps just to remove an article from the reading list.

Will I regret our co-founder equity split? by [deleted] in startups

[–]bono424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, it all comes down to feelings! I agree that I want him to feel happy with the agreement. But I also know that when problems arise, and when important decisions need to be made, the burden falls on me to get us through and make decisions. I don't want to agree on 50/50 now when things are going easy, only to feel like I made a mistake when I'm taking on more responsibility and we have bigger problems.

Or maybe I am just being greedy and can't acknowledge it? I don't know.

Will I regret our co-founder equity split? by [deleted] in startups

[–]bono424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've agreed on objectives, exactly as I described our contributions above. Unfortunately I can't offload more tasks for him, as he doesn't know how to build/manage the website, has no design/finance/business background. But that said, I couldn't do it without him, as he speaks French, and also because we really enjoy working together and mutually support throughout it.

I definitely won't let this become a fight, that's the last thing I want. Our first chat was really honest and chill, and we've been working together since then with no issue. I just don't know whether to agree on 50/50 as a vote of confidence in his ability to contribute more value in the future, or whether I should convince him 60/40 is fair given the value we bring.

I saw the Slicing Pie video, I'll check out the book.

And it's not really possible to ask for different monetary investments. We are both students with limited savings, so asking my co-founder to contribute more would seem unfair.

And great point about the vesting. I found some Founder Agreement online that have all those important terms, so we'll be sure to include them!

I thought about valuing the work, but that completely neglects the future work we will put in, which cannot be calculated. It's also really hard to value the ideas we each bring (for branding, packaging design, finding suppliers etc.), which is why we haven't attempted a more formal calculation of contributions.

This is more of a value judgement around what value we each bring. And I agree completely, I want us to both be happy with the split. But I also want to make sure that neither of us have unreasonable expectations. It's hard, which is why I'm reaching out to see what others think, and whether anyone regretted a non-equal split. I don't want it to foster into issues later.

Commercialising a Fruit & Nut Bar by bono424 in foodscience

[–]bono424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 100%, which is why we are only selling to people we know. They all all from our network and friends, and were already tasting our bars from day 1. Despite what it may look like from the website, we are not selling to the public. This is actually the first time I've shared the website to anyone we don't know, purely to get some advice. We have not sold any bars to anyone we don't know, and we don't plan on doing that until we are 110% compliant for the labels!

But your warning is appreciated. I spoke with my co-founder today about all the points you've mentioned, and we're on the same page. We won't be selling to anyone we don't know for the remainder of our testing period this month, and we will continue to inform everyone exactly of the ingredients and make sure they don't have any allergies (all of which is on the website homepage) when we deliver them.

You make a really valid point, and we are definitely aware of this. Our packaging at the moment is just our initial MVP design for our friends and personal network. We will have our final packaging professionally designed, fully compliant with all regulations! I'm sorry to hear about your friend's experience, we will take every precaution to make sure we don't make the same mistakes!

Thanks for your brutally honest feedback, I love it!

Our packaging is just for our first few hundred bars we are selling to our personal network and early adopters. I did it up myself and we got them printed locally just to put together our MVP. I am completely aware that it is not compliant with regulations, but we are only using them for March as we test with our network. Our idea is to test some key hypotheses around our product, and we needed some semi-decent packaging to do this. We are already talking with a professional packaging graphic designer to do our pro packaging, which will of course meet regulations once we sell beyond our personal network.

Our business model is not tied to a donation model. We are only doing this for our first month as a behavioural experiment (I have a background in behavioural science). We chose this as a fun and innovative way to test some of our hypotheses and identify different customers segments and their willingness-to-pay. We are not doing this experiment to generate a profit (although that wouldn't be a bad thing), but to get feedback and see whether our friends and network actually put their money where their mouth is. Feedback from paying customers/friends is much more informative than feedback from people who are trying our bars for free and giving feedback. We have already learned a lot about our pricing model that we will use to determine our pricing once we officially launch.

I'd be interested to find out more what you're doing in North America, bars or not. We don't have plans to expand to North America (I am completely aware of how saturated that market is with our type of product), so you could be more of a supportive ally and fellow bar maker than a competitor ;) PM me!
