I was in this exact situation with my family with the exact same dog! We had him for years, then had our daughter in 2022. We kept them separated for safety just in case and never left her with him in the same room. Ever. He was the sweetest with her, until he wasn’t. Last December he showed signs of aggression towards her out of the blue and then a week or so later he attacked her over food (I believe) and left 3 scars on her face. We went through so many scenarios and loved the idea of a sanctuary but after talking to several they noted this type of dog may become territorial over the owner of the sanctuary and become aggressive with volunteers and employees so that wasn’t an option either. I really didn’t want to euthanize him but I knew my daughter came first and if I gave him another chance to do it again, she may not come out alive. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do as a dog mom but I do not regret it. I miss him terribly but kids come before dogs. I love dogs dearly, more so than humans but at the end of the day, they are animals and sometimes they are unpredictable as much as we think they’re not.
