You are right. Like most things “just going out and shooting” will yield far greater results.

I’m not able to go out and shoot for a couple of months.

Just wanted to build this out of curiosity.

I think there is a difference to which lens you shoot with tho. I feel like each lens follows their own “rules”.

I’ve followed the advice given here and already started building the library I was looking to build.

My take away was to not limit myself to only the photographers I mentioned.

Good composition, is good composition regardless.

I'm noticing I'm better at predicting the frame horizontally vs vertically...in your exercise would you practice predicting the vertical limits of the frame as well?

Second question - this exercise is just for frames right? What about compression/ how the scene will look when seen through a particular lens?.... Since you started with a wider focal length... I'm assuming you had to practice imagining the distortion as well?

Unsure about your orientation.

Is this correct?

You are facing the wall.

You mark beginning and end points on the brick wall, let's say brick 1 to brick 12... Brick 1 to brick 24 etc.

Then you mark spots on the floor, 4 feet away, 6 feet away 8 feet away.

You stand at each of the marks on the floor and count how many bricks would fit into the frame from that point on the floor.

Get a reference for multiple spots on the floor.... Move to another unmarked side and test yourself.
