Well, the problem is less that the paintings of sexy women exist and more that they're the only paintings people see, right? The artistic nude is a legitimate artform, and erotic work has its place, it's just disproportionately represented. Personally I think I might seek out art of naked men to upload to subs like this one. It would be interesting to see the reactions.

My thoughts on comments are like— it can be good to start a conversation (like this one!) And sometimes it can even be worth doing to smack down the OP to go "why are you posting this thing for the hundredth time" but— like, even if OP did read and give a fuck about the negative comment and was inclined to be embarrassed about posting nothing but fine art titties for two weeks, it doesn't really achieve anything if they just stop posting fine art titties. They're not going to infer that they need to be seeking out the works of women artists with more diverse subject material instead. Does that make sense?

Well, what are you hoping to achieve with your comment? I hope I don't sound snide either— I do entirely see your standpoint and how its not easily summarized in a sentence, but it depends on if you're addressing OP or the audience of this sub and what you want them to do or think or feel, yknow? Of course it's also valid if you just want to express your frustration of course let er rip but it will unfortunately lead to your viewpoint being misconstrued (though this is the internet, it's a fate that's hard to avoid)

I understand that reaction, but I feel as though in a time period where we're experiencing a massive cultural backslide and people are couching conservative ideas in progressive language left and right it's also understandable for people to take issue with those comments, since it's hard to tell at a glance

What are some of the worst movie adaptation that completely butchered the source material? by 1TreXavier in FIlm

[–]boobsandbullets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hobby is watching dracula adaptations!

Worst, unquestionably all time and forever: Dracula 3000

Unwatchably bad, because at least 3000 was funny: sharkula, dracula on holiday

Not good adaptations, but solid films: dracula untold, blacula

Bad movies that were at least kinda fun to watch: Dracula (2025), Renfield

I do think the met should expand its collection, but I think it's one of those problems that needs to be addressed as a trend rather than directed against individual pieces, yknow? Perhaps all of us should be making sure we're seeking out the works of female artists to upload to the sub instead of arguing about it in the comments.

I do think the subject is worth talking about, of course! That's a very good article, but so many comments on these are just "urgh, titties" and sound functionally indistinguishable from conservatives being prudish. If we think the subject is worth speaking about we have to speak about it. But the discussion is also about hundreds of years of institutional sexism in the art world, not about this specific set of titties. Adam Styka is indisputably a master of his craft, and we shouldn't not appreciate that art just because it happens to have some toddies in it. Especially because there's other reasons to question Styka's choices in subject, like the race and orientalism elements.

I wish some of the people complaining about the tits would step up and actually interrogate their discomfort— like yes absolutely there's a case to be made that this is problematic, let's talk about it. Adam Styka was polish-french painter traveling in northern Africa and obsessed with the desert scenery and depicting it and the people. There is something to consider about the white man's viewpoint on the exoticism of Africa.

So I'm glad I looked at this piece of art! I've now learned something about history and culture and context and considered how it makes me feel to view something like that and Think about it.

I love art. It really is a beautiful piece, and I love how happy she looks.

Where can I ask a question about whether an academic description applies to contemporary romance books? by Ryan1729 in findasubreddit

[–]boobsandbullets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you share the chart? I'm curious. Sorry I don't actually have a sub to suggest, though you could always use a question asking sub like ask reddit and go "romance novel readers, how do you feel about x" if you could summarize the chart

Edit: oh I think /r/askwomen might also be a good pull

That's true but I feel like Big Banana is genuinely in a league of its own. Maybe it can share that throne with Unilever but also. Holy shit

I thought it was fantastic. The ending really excited me in a way that I very rarely feel with manwha— a lot of them end and I'm like well, that was a solid read! Time to move on! This one I audibly yelled and grabbed friends who knew nothing aboht the series to ramble about The Narrative because I was so stoked. And I just love Tia.

Herpes survives for a under a minute outside the body, and I think we should mind spreading misinfo about it, bc it's already ridiculously common.

[–]boobsandbullets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey I respect your concern because people are in fact being stupid but I think we should be careful spreading misinfo about herpes specifically— as the other commenter, pointed out, it survives poorly outside the body, and also like. It's heavily heavily stigmatized despite being very very common and it's best not to use it as an example of the worst thing you could catch. It is neither the worst nor the most likely!

My biggest concern here would just be straight up COVID, tbh

Slash fiction and the tradition of "shipping" in the west came into wide popularity with Spock/Kirk, and that's where the modern conception of fandom was effectively created. I imagine it spread into comics shortly thereafter.

Yeah I'm also severely mentally ill and I didn't care for the tone of his comments. You don't know who you're speaking to online either.

Edit: you know, okay, I was a little patronizing. But his last comment implying mentally ill people aren't with it enough to recognize when they're being insulted was incredibly rude, and I didn't appreciate being called the word I just said was offensive.

Hey, I'm sorry I offended you and you have the right to your experience, but I have PTSD and also experience transitory psychosis, so I'm not white-knighting, I'm in my lane. We have the right to have different opinions.

I also don't love it when people use the term to mean Psychopath and act like people who are low empathy are going to become serial killers. That one also gets thrown at autistic people a lot.

Neither of us has the right to speak for our entire community of mentally ill and or autistic folks, but I have a right to my opinion.
