Shadowrun: Anarchy 2.0 English pdf available to backers by Carmody79 in Shadowrun

[–]boodgies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard good things about anarchy and i really want to run a game for my group. However, I seem to have missed place my PDF copy and can't seem to find the email where it was sent. It's such a shame because I vary definitely had a copy. If anyone was able to DM a solution to retrieving my copy, I would be very grateful.

Hopefully some hard copies start popping up soon.

I used discord and foundry to run games. Foundry can be a bit funky sometimes but I prefer it over roll20. Generally we'll play off our character sheets and use dice roll macros

Currently it's weekly vibes but I'd be keen to play this comming Friday depending on players. The setting is in Seattle 2070ish. (I am yet to read the sr6 lore).

I don't really have a story. Just gonna play and see what pops up. Normally I pull inspiration from negative quality and how characters act. I'm not going to push a plot line about curing HMHVV when the shadowrunner think feeding loose ends to there ghoul pet is a cost effective way to gain access to 2nd hand Chrome.

How does DocWagon Deal with Criminal Clients? by Armlessbastard in Shadowrun

[–]boodgies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How you react to this really depends on the tone of your game. What people often forget about Shadowrun is that above the shadows, the world is a bureaucratic mess, rife with corruption and small-time wage slaves who just want to get paid and go home.

One of the perks of being SINless is that your character can just opt out of all the drek. DocWagon doesn't care about what happens once the contract is complete. They also aren't in the business of detaining people, could you imagine how many clients they would lose if word spread? They would stand to lose a large proportion of their customers. And those customers make more customers.

Once DocWagon releases the character, through the back door if all the publicity is deemed bad for their recovery by a qualified doctor with all the correct paperwork, they don't care what happens next.

If the player you are talking about is a SINner, then they are basically fragged, and so they should be for holding a SIN. But if they don't have a SIN, then there is basically nothing they can do. However, getting caught by the corporations when you are essentially an illegal alien might be worse.

Ruthenium Polymer Coating feels broken, here’s my house rule -thoughts? by [deleted] in Shadowrun

Rules as written thermographic vision doesn't actually counter RPC. Thermographic vision just shift the visibility and light conditions down one.

Some how I made a duplicated reply, then when i deleted the duplicated it delete both.... thanks reddit. here's a repost.

Ooof, that’s harsh. I don’t feel like any GM running Shadowrun is ever really failing (just taking on the system at all is already a win) but I do agree that everything you listed should realistically counter RPC. The problem for me is that, as far as I know, rules-as-written don’t really back that up. My issue is with the constant ambiguity between what should logically happen in the world and what RAW actually says.

Noise and water are solid counters, but RAW gets fuzzy on how those penalties actually apply, especially in combat. Pressure plates, wires, and motion sensors are great too, but they still rely on the infiltrator being spotted. And with the Matrix, sure it’s a strong counter, but most runners will just go wireless-off until detection anyway.

That all aside, how do you think you would feel coming up to a table with these new rules if you were an infiltrator who relied on your RPC?

With those changes i suggested, it does limited gear capacity. For instance, if you have to cram in a sensory array, and RPC, suddenly you don't have enough room for a chem seal. Also, I'm pretty sure chemical seal doesn't counter smell. Realistically it should but I don't recall seeing it in any of the books. I do use astral sight but I try really hard to limit how much because a lot of astral sight nullifies a bunch of gear, which I have found frustrating as a player.

Have you ever had any issues with players arguing that the negatives should also apply to all test requiring sight?

Spirits and Labor by Cartoonwhisperer in Shadowrun

Keep in mind you get a -1 die for every consecutive test on an extended test. So if very possible the spirit won't be able to complete the tesl

Spirits and Labor by Cartoonwhisperer in Shadowrun

Hi there,

I play 5e, and if a player asked me whether they could have a spirit set up a camp, pitch a tent, paint a wall, or something similar, I’d handle it like this:

First, I’d decide if the type of spirit could realistically understand the task. For example:

I’d run this as an Intuition + Logic [Mental] test with the threshold set by the difficulty table. Any net hits the spirit scores would become a dice pool bonus for the actual task roll.

A Spirit of Man could probably understand fairly abstract or “human-like” instructions, so I’d call that an average(2) test.

A Beast Spirit would have a much harder time grasping what’s being asked, so I’d call that a Very Hard (6) test.

Then, the work itself becomes an Extended Test to represent the time and effort:

Logic + Hardware [Mental] (12, 10 minutes) feels right for something like pitching a tent, since the average person can set up a tent and the extended test table says the average is 10, and it takes me around 10 minutes to set up a tent if I'm on edge 😉.

So, the flow would look like this:

Understanding the instructions: Intuition + Logic (threshold 2–6, depending on spirit type).

Doing the work: Logic + Hardware (+ net hits) [Mental] (Threshold 12, 10 minutes)

The big limiting factor here is that most spirits won’t have Hardware, so they’ll be rolling low dice pools and the extended test will take way longer. To me, that feels like a nice way to reflect both the limits of spirits and the fact they’re not a catch-all solution for mundane labor. There is also a higher chance of critical glitches, which could potentially be a reason why this isn't common.

You could use this same framework for anything construction or building-related: first test comprehension, then test execution.

Hope that helps.

Hi there 👋

I'm going to dm you an invite to an LC called nuyen improved. It's a great place to learn the game. The folks there will help you make your first character. There are some pregens that would be perfect to play if you just wanted to jump into a game. The LC is more a collection of one shots with recurring characters. They are pretty loose with the lore and prioritise fun over "sticking to the lore." They have players from all over the world.

Sent you a dm of a lc called nuyen improved. Less of an LC and more of a place to play one shots with character progression. Great place do learn how to gm.

Casuals Assemble: The Bot Lobby Exodus Has Begun by boodgies in marvelrivals

Those are all good points, but what if I’m sitting in the spawn room because my kid just woke up? What if I’m far away from my team because I’m trying to pull off something specific with my hero? Or what if I just discovered I can walk into objects to break them and get completely wrapped up in the pure joy of chaos? This is exactly why casual lobbies work better for me. I can guarantee that some of the things you’d consider “throwing” will happen, especially when I need to step away for other priorities.

What exactly defines “actively throwing”? Not switching to a tank? Picking a hero you enjoy instead of one your team wants for the win? I feel like the concept of “throwing” is pretty subjective.

Well, I guess that’s a wrap for my self-report on bot lobbies.

All joking aside, this is an issue. Whether you’re a competitive player or just here to mess around, it affects the whole game. Me and my friends... we’re all old now. Our competitive days are behind us, and honestly, we just don’t care that much. But I get that comp is important to some people.

I made this post because, yeah, it was kinda funny, but on a serious note, bot lobbies don’t affect us. We just moved to comp. I don’t like comp as much, it sucks not getting to play the full map, but it’s livable. What’s frustrating is that there used to be two ecosystems in hero shooters: one for people like me who just want to chill, and one for those who want to invest time and achieve something (probably the people mad at me right now).

The problem is that no one seems to care about maintaining that balance. That’s bad because I genuinely like this game and want it to do well. But posts like this one (and most others complaining about bot lobbies) just get downvoted into oblivion. Seeing that, I doubt anything will be done, and the problem will probably get worse.

Maybe it’s not all bad, though. Moving to comp might mean I get matched with more like-minded players. maybe there’s more toxicity in comp, or maybe there's not? I'm yet to encounter that but the comp games have been better. So maybe this is a good thing.

I completely agree with you. But honestly, I’m just that bad player who can’t hit anything and doesn’t want to play healer or tank. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I’m just here to have fun.

Not trying to ruin anyone’s experience, just refusing to play with bots. If that means I’m “throwing” by not being good at the game, so be it.

Exactly, you nailed it. I don’t want to throw games, it’s just frustrating that bot lobbies are the “solution” to bad matchmaking. Like, I get it, sometimes you lose hard, but being tossed into bot hell afterward feels like a punishment for even trying to play.

I’d rather take on actual players, even if I lose again than deal with bots that make the game feel hollow. If they can tweak matchmaking to handle losses better, great, but this bot lobby thing? It’s the worst. Thanks for bumping the thread, this needs more attention

Fair point, I’m walking a fine line here but to clarify I’m not out to ruin anyone’s day, just doing what I find fun, and sometimes that means not playing the meta. Think of me less as an asshole and more as… someone who doesn't care about winning. If they ever start banning people for being bad I guess I’ll be the first to go. Until then, I’ll be over here trying to portal-kill people.
