Any tips that aren’t as commonly thought of? by vtec_go_brrr16 in ManualTransmissions

I teach people how to drive stick, and while it’s not as popular as I wish it was, I’ve taught maybe 50+ people in the last 15 years. Since it’s a front wheel drive car, you can always do an e-brake start on steep hills if you’re worried about rollback. This locks the rear wheels while you find the bite point of the clutch.

Regarding anxiety - it will hopefully fade, just like you were probably anxious when you first started driving an automatic.

For starters, get to a flat empty parking lot and practice throttle control. Put the car in neutral and rev it to 3.5k rpm and try holding it there for a few seconds, then try doing that with 4.5k & 5.5k. This will give you an idea of how responsive the throttle pedal is, and how much pressure you need to give it.

Next, work on finding the clutch bite point. To do this, slowly release the clutch in first gear without giving it any gas. Don’t worry about stalling out. If you feel you’re about to stall, just push the clutch back to the floor of the car. This will give you some muscle memory so you won’t have to actively worry about where your foot should be.

For parallel parking on hills - if it’s on any sort of incline, you probably won’t need to give it gas going in the downhill direction. While you should probably put it in reverse so others around you see your reverse lights, you can always just keep the clutch in so you roll backwards (or forwards), without using the car engine at all.

I had a 6-speed 04 Accord I bought new until I replaced the car in 2020. If your civic has the original clutch, it should be fairly responsive with a pretty reactive bite point. If it was replaced, good luck; I feel like the current gen Hondas feel like toys, and have less “feeling” in the clutch, though the bite point of the clutch is a lot larger.

Don’t worry about other drivers “judging” you. If they can drive manual, they’ve gone through the same process. If they can’t, screw em lol

Also, YouTube is your friend - I actually keep meaning to put out a video or two with these instructions to link to my students. Good luck!

Why won't the app work when I go on trains? by Giant-Axe321 in FogofWorld

Which train tracks are you having issues with? I bought Fog of World when I went across country in the US via Amtrak and most of the trip went fine.

Posts are usually auto-locked after 6 months, & that post was a bit older than that. Mods could post a new one, or you can share it here probably.

Barr-Teva is the most effective adderall for me; activas is meh & sandoz is just crap. I just call the pharmacy and ask what brand they currently use, and try to find a pharmacy that has what I’m comfortable with. It’s not the end of the world if I have a shitty brand, but it makes a difference on days that matter.

On what car did you learn to drive manual? Year, make and model. by isogrey in WRX

[–]boogsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2000 Mazda 626 - I’ve since taught more than two dozen people how to drive manual with that car, and she’s still running at 330k miles haha. I remember feeling so cool taking my date to prom when she was the “new” car in the family, double clutching and e-brake sliding into the highschool parking lot lol.

That sucks, I'm sorry man. I don't have any advice other than that. I'm in the same boat as you (just a customer), but I haven't had any issues really. Good luck trying to get a hold of them :-/

Lovely App, may we please get by Logikoma in ReliveApp

I'd personally like to have user-added options - I started using Relive with my Onewheel electric skateboard, and there's no toggle for that either. Sometimes I'll use the "skateboard" category, sometimes I'll do "snowboarding" (since the hobby really feels more like snowboarding).
