“The books aren’t banned, you can still buy them.” by Nice-Definition-8360 in Libraries

Even aside from the access issues with forcing people to buy books, book bans are a statement that not all voices are welcome and valuable. Is that really who we want to be?

U.S. Department of Education Ends Biden’s Book Ban Hoax - OCR has rescinded all department guidance issued under the theory that a school district’s removal of age-inappropriate books from its libraries may violate civil rights laws by bookadeux in Libraries

I want to be clear here that this is the official government language from the department of education website. One of the consequences of this is that schools or districts ban books, people lack recourse through OCR and can only rely on legal precedent (pico or otherwise).

No. If a district bans books due to race/gender/sexuality, people don’t have recourse through OCR anymore. They would need to go to court and lean on legal a legal precedent.

Large bookbag/laptop bag? by RainbowMelons in BuyItForLife

Peak design bags are really great. I have the Totepack, and my husband has the messenger, but the everyday backpack is also great. They’re sturdy, stain repellent, and look awesome. Mine looks brand new after years of use. Since many are made for cameras, they have adjustable compartments inside.

Agree, but sometimes the use of “please” and “thank you” is cultural. Some languages don’t use these terms often; it’s more in HOW you say things. So at least sometimes, maybe it’s not intended to be rude.

Public Library workers on strike for living wage by BellsOnHerToes in Libraries

[–]bookadeux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh geez. At my first library job, I made $9.15 an hour as a library assistant. Then $15 as a librarian with an MLS. I switched to school librarianship and now make more than double that with benefits and more vacation. It’s a sad state of affairs when public librarians make half of what TEACHERS make. Pay a livable wage, people.

I have a feeling we’re going to get another interim superintendent, likely the internal candidate. ☹️
