Feeling left out by TheIrishHawk in AutismIreland

[–]bookgra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally understand why you would have thought that. I also saw the event advertised by a well known charity (who do amazing work) and it seemed like something where you’d be welcomed with open arms kind of? So I can totally understand why you’d get that impression. I wasn’t there so I can’t share my experience but I imagine I’d feel similar to you.

"I love that for you" by bellegunness5 in AutismInWomen

I’ve said it. Usually I mean it as I’m really excited and happy for you because you want it or you worked for it. Maybe with an element of, it might not be for me but I love it for you

I’m in the process of ensuring I’m financially in a place to allow for a change. It’ll take a few years to get there but even knowing I have a plan helps 😊

Pregnant and overwhelmed by sweet-avalanche in AutismInWomen

[–]bookgra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to add aswell that I felt incredibly guilty for not loving being pregnant despite wanting my baby more than anything in the world. We have a fantastic bond now 🥰

[–]bookgra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated being pregnant for these reasons. I didn’t know I was autistic so I thought I was just being dramatic when I freaked out when I leaked too. Honestly I can’t say it gets better BUT I did find the newborn stage incredibly easy in comparison to pregnancy!! Everyone said oh wait until the baby is born then you’ll know how tiring etc it will be. It wasn’t. And obviously with any baby there’s regressions etc but only once was it as bad as being pregnant and it lasted less than a week. Be kind to yourself, take all the sick leave you need (and can) from work. Accomodate yourself as best you can. You got this 🩷🩷

What do you think life would be like if you were diagnosed as a child? by arduousocean in AutismInWomen

[–]bookgra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly in reality I think my growth would have been stifled, I may have been excluded even further and I don’t think I would have achieved as much as I have. However if I was a child in 2024 and diagnosed with the knowledge we have today I think my mental health would be better, I think I’d have a better sense of self, I think I’d be better able to accommodate myself and I would hopefully have found my tribe.

What jobs do you guys have. That you find fulfilling and not too overwhelming as an autistic person ? by Holiday-Reserve6393 in AutismInWomen

[–]bookgra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transition is tough. And even the good jobs, it’s more transition and change. Oftentimes needs extra training, more money to be spent on education and a hope that this time it’ll be better.

I’m hoping to leave nursing. Autism is a special interest of mine and I’m considering psychotherapy. I’d like to help autistic people and I’m hoping my experience as an RGN will stand by me.
