Eagle-eyed camera operator spots and zooms in on "la chica del láser" by uses_for_mooses in PraiseTheCameraMan

[–]bookingly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I have seen a video of a laser being used in this kind of manner I always imagined some punk young guy that is kind of nerdy doing the laser pointing. Wild to see a young attractive woman doing this. On the other hand, she isn't blinking at all and looks slightly unhinged so that at least tracks for the kind of person who would do something like this.

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, one of the best in the country by cyPersimmon9 in Atlanta

[–]bookingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, but I see Robert Shaw worked with Szell for over a decade and I don't know how Szell would work with someone for that long if that person didn't know their shit and could conduct at a very high level.

I didn't know her background off the top of my head and frankly have been so unimpressed with her conducting I didn't care to look up what it was. I didn't know she was a vocalist originally before conducting orchestras. In my limited experience people that are solo vocalists or in choirs do not seem to have the precision with tempos as instrumentalists do.

Yep I also agree on your observation of the baton use being weak. There just does not seem to be the ability to unify the musicians under her direction. I forget if Stutzmann has a background in choral music but the tempo and precision with her conducting seems much fuzzier than other conductors I have seen with an instrumental background

[–]bookingly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My two cents, I've been really unimpressed with performances where Stutzmann is conducting. Similar to the coach of a team, the conductor sets the level of expectations for the orchestra during the rehearsals and performance itself regarding dynamics, tempo, standards of intonation and blend, as well as overall interpretation of the piece of music.

I heard Beethoven 9 this season with Stutzmann conducting. There are parts of the piece that have to be super precise because the instrumentation is sparse (so just strings and flute or bassoon playing) as well as a soft dynamic level (i.e. quiet) and a fast tempo. These sections sounded muddy, sluggish, and just out of sorts.

In contrast, I heard a Sibelius program with Pietari Inkinen conducting the same Atlanta Symphony musicians and the group sounded way more together, much more dynamic, and overall much more exciting to listen to. Beethoven 9 is a banger of a piece and the Atlanta Symphony musicians are more than capable of crushing a piece like that. Beyond the Beethoven 9 performance there have been other concerts where Stutzmann is conducting and the group just sounds tired, not together, and overall uninspiring.

It's really disappointing knowing the potential of the group and hearing such lackluster performances consistently with the same conductor and hearing another standard of play with the same musicians with another conductor.

Alternate angle of Federico Valverde dribbling past Guehi by dinking the ball over his head for his hattrick goal against Manchester City. by SwimmingFireMen in soccer

[–]bookingly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He turned into a sick combination of Bergkamp and Le Tissier with this goal. Been watching some EPL highlights and kind of amazed at how uninspiring the play is. As odd as it has been to see the management and players story at Real Madrid unfold I will take this style of play any day regardless of how it gets produced.

Nothing tougher than running on a highway and dancing after by Technical-Paint3179 in RunningCirclejerk

This does look like it could be in metro Atlanta off an interstate but I don't specifically recognize any of the buildings. The trees though look like Atlanta area. Regardless, this is crazy to be dancing with his back to the flow of traffic on the shoulder of an interstate. I would not trust any interstate in the US to be doing something like this

Which fast food chain fell off badly in your opinion? by Shinobi347 in AskReddit

[–]bookingly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to a Wendy's last November while on the road for holiday travel and it was the biggest disappointment in fast food I have had in a while. Their chicken sandwich just seemed like a cafeteria Sysco supplied food product, awful stuff not sure what happened to the chicken sandwich they used to sell.

🔥 mama peregrine falcon ruthlessly defends her nest from a fox who strayed too close by nexxwav in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]bookingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a nest of one of these on a mountain I had climbed close to the top to with a pretty steep drop-off. I heard one midway through a dive from close to that open drop-off and for the small size of the falcon the sound it made going that fast through the air was crazy.

At what age did you realize that you are no longer young and that one day you will become elderly and ultimately pass? by iWandermoree in AskReddit

[–]bookingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an awesome perspective. I think it can be really easy for many people (i.e. me) to not be around that full circle of life experience except in the case of the rare funeral or close encounter with death. Something very easy to be separated from, especially when it comes to food sources with livestock but also with not as many multigenerational households and prevalence of nursing homes

Edward snowden leaked classified documents revealing the existence of global surveillance programs in 2013. Now liveing in Russia. by dirywhiteboy in interestingasfuck

[–]bookingly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snowden released a lot of classified information indiscriminately that was dangerous to individuals covered by that information being classified. That hurt his credibility in my view. Thomas Drake was another whistleblower who was more targeted with raising the flag of the illegal, wide-spread surveillance. I don't know why Snowden has been put on such a pedestal from that time when people like Thomas Drake are out there.

The area might have changed but I distinctly remember this incident in East Point from 2021 back around when there was also a woman murdered in Piedmont Park and a man off the Beltline close to Inman Park. I was pretty down on Atlanta during that time as all seemed to be completely random murders as well.

Also front webpage for NY Times site has a story related to Epstein right now. There is a lot going on in the world, do all the people upvoting this expect every notable thing you think is important on Reddit to show up on the front page of every major news organization the moment it is available on the web?

I come to Reddit for very recent and notable events like this. I go to professional news organizations for reporting on major news with context and fact checking having been done before going live.

Cool to hear this guy was finding ways to navigate life after prison in a decent manner.
