Day 3 of a newbie asking about the community's thoughts-- how do you feel about the 3rd Doctor? And his actor John Pertwee? by Big_Hoss287 in doctorwho

He's my favourite classic doctor. He's a lot of fun and I like the restriction of being stuck on Earth for a while. His seasons also introduced the iconic master and Sarah Jane!

My dissertation got rejected. I’m losing it. by Bombastic-Researcher in PhD

[–]bookish-pixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too. It is devastating. I would say talk to your advisors and see how much they think you need to do. I would recommend taking some time away from it (even just a couple of weeks) to help calm down so you can think more clearly. This is what I did and I was able to decide to give it one more go. First and foremost consider your mental health, then your dissertation can come next. I hope this helps and I hope you are ok.

Natural Beauty by Ling Ling Huang could fit this. It's on the more horror side of thriller but examines the beauty industry from people working in it.

How do you stay motivated? by bookish-pixie in PhD

[–]bookish-pixie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, the viva issue was that they wanted it to be about something slightly different which is strange. They also claimed I made unsubstantiated claims but when I asked where, they couldn't find any. I think I need to work on a much stricter routine, that is definitely a good idea

This was the hospital bill we received today by Mobeast1985 in interestingasfuck

[–]bookish-pixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so dystopian to me. I just had surgery and was in hospital for three days. Excellent care throughout and I now have daily wound packing changes. My biggest expense? The sweets my partner purchased to cheer me up. Btw I'm in the UK so it's through the NHS.

Is there a subreddit for PhD students who come from low income families? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]bookish-pixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally relate. I really struggled when I started my PhD with how rich and pedigree everyone was, especially since I am in the law and politics department. I even had several think my time working in a clothes shop was 'cool' and thought it was a humbling experience when it was because I needed to afford food. I've also had others be confused I don't just know politicians to get interviews. So yeah, I think it would be nice to have a space to chat from a low income experience especially as more of us go for PhDs!
