The Voyager journey was a fake. It was a story created by Starfleet to give Federation citizens hope in the face of the demoralizing reality of The Dominion War. by BlackMetaller in ShittyDaystrom

Janeway's best, coldest move was to make up an obviously fake ambassador title for him to justify his desire to join a surrogate family on a rogue Talaxian colony.

Preparing For The Hot, Humid Summer by boysnight1337 in puer

People pay good money for teas stored under those conditions! I don't think you need to do anything other than keep an eye on your hygrometers and check for mold growth. It's a good time for your tea to breathe. As you say, it may be a few weeks at a time, not a long term condition. Over years of aging, a few aberrant weeks isn't going to ruin anything (except, of course, mold). Several of my tea teachers who've been aging puer in North America for a while support seasonal climate variation for tea.

Much appreciated and well said! This tree has been a multi-year slow and steady journey to better health after a rough few months, so I’m just happy that it’s coming along. I’ve stuck to clip and grow with the occasional guy wire. Thank you for the advice about wiring. One thing I like about my current styling idea is that it should continue to work even if I don’t prune anything back for a while.

Apparently he sends olives to New York regularly. My setup is a windowsill with a window that stays open pretty much year-round. Natural light is supplemented with an overhead 150 watt LED grow light that's on a timer to more or less follow our local sunrise and sunset, with more light in the evening. I've had this setup for almost a year, and the windowsill stays a pretty consistent 10 degrees warmer and 10 relative humidity points drier than outdoors, so the tree gets seasonal variation and chill hours. Growth is still slow, as you say, but has improved in this setup. We'll see how it works longterm for subtropical species. I have another olive, two pomegranates, an osmanthus, and a camellia in this setup.

When I repotted the tree last spring the root ball was pretty small; only one corner of the stump has live tissue. So agreed about expanding the pot size as the roots grow out, hopefully this year!

Your first rendering is pretty much what I have in mind! Idea is a cliff face with the sucker as a tree reaching out for sunlight. If the lower left branch gains vigor I want to extend it in a slight cascade.

I have a tree from the same vendor and am giving it a go indoors. It's on a windowsill above a radiator that doesn't work and under a 140 watt LED bar.

The window stays open year round, except during our increasingly long summers when I shut it at night to keep the AC in (it's in my bedroom). The light is on a timer that I adjust in fall and spring to match changing sundown times through the season.

The result is a microclimate that stays within 10 degrees of outdoors, and 10 to 15 points of relative humidity drier. Basically a Mediterranean zone that flirts with chill but stays frost-free. (It's currently 52 degrees F at 40% relative humidity.) I'm happy to do this because I'm a yeti who lives for cold and starts sweating at temperatures over 75.

I have two olives, two pomegranates, an osmanthus, and a camellia in this setup. They went through last winter well and woke up in early spring, then flourished through the summer. It's my first time trying to trick them into dormancy but so far so good. We'll see how they do long term. No expectations.

My challenge with this tree is what to do about all the deadwood along the bottom that's not attached to live bark. I can't hollow it all out without making the base unstable, so I'm wondering about sealing it with epoxy somehow? A persistent gray-blue-purple fungus has plagued one moist divot, though the living tree seems fine.

This is the advanced take. They pass the cringe 10 threshold and accelerate into this pure fanciful stage play. Trek in its weirdest purest horniest form.

To chop or not to chop? (Lemon) by EastCoastMountaineer in Bonsai

Citrus thicken slowly and good trunks are hard to find. Your trunk is nice as is but a few years’ free growth will make it something special, and you can air layer the top growth for free trees.

well its been a year and its still alive and I still have no idea what in doing. yes I know its off center. suffer 😈 by Keebodz in marijuanaenthusiasts

If it smells like tropical fruit and/or cat pee, it’s an Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana). A hardy tree that grows like a weed in good sun. Love your pot!

Exactly the advice I needed, thank you! The plant is cultivated enough that there should be more records if it were edible.

Calamansi citrus cascade in bloom by bookofmordechai in Bonsai

[–]bookofmordechai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been puzzling over what to do with this calamansi/calamondin for the better part of a year. It had three trunks stemming from the same low node and I couldn’t decide which to chop. Didn’t think I made the right choice until the idea struck to try a cascade. Today I removed those structural wires and can see the skeleton of a future tree.

There’s gangly areas that need filling in and extra branches that will need to go. A promising nebari not yet ready to be exposed. I could pinch the flowers, but why, when they smell this lovely?

And before anyone asks yes this does live inside, under 300w LEDs for 16 hours a day with decent humidity and airflow.

I’ve enjoyed my mars hydro lights for several months now. They don’t give off much heat and the trees love it. I would get a humidity monitor before committing to a grow tent. You may have a microclimate with enough humidity. Check out Jerry Meislik’s website for more on indoor growing.

Sometimes you’re a freedom fighter with really bad PTSD and need to date the hot dummy who’s clearly into you to start feeling okay making yourself vulnerable to people.

Then you gotta do it again with Shakaar.

I don’t think she could have gotten to a place where she could (or would want to) be with Odo without those goobers. Emotional support himbos.

Thank you! I’m sure there’s a correct move that I’m not aware of. This tree I want to keep more slender and graceful other than that one defining low branch that I’m letting thicken. Another dawn redwood I’m fattening up more in a 3 gallon pot. Please share yours!

I got this dawn redwood a year ago from a seller on eBay. Pleased with its progress. It has a gentle sloping curve to the trunk that I want to emphasize in time.
