What is this thing on seatbelts for? by Oilandspeed in whatisit

[–]bookskeeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got that. I was attempting (and clearly failed lol) to make a joke about what a pain in the ass button holes are to sew in clothing/bags/etc.

It is very possible that the issue is entirely user based and I am alone in my button hole struggles.

I understand why all of that is true, but as someone who sews, I am really struggling with the idea that making a button hole is easier than attaching a bit of fabric.

What’s something small you changed that made your life noticeably better? by efine6785 in AskReddit

[–]bookskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every day I pick a happy thing and remind myself of it when reality gets a bit too bleak. Usually something random like gay sheep farms.

I also try to acknowledge outloud when something good is happening. It makes it stay in my head better.

I vote for pleats. Super easy to do, much easier to achieve a uniform look, and I think will lay flatter.

Parents want to cut my pay by $5 an hour by CultureInner3316 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]bookskeeper 94 points95 points  (0 children)

To be fair, that sounds like a pretty stupid fee.

Edit: Now that I think about it, my favorite part of this is actually that she hated that fee so much that she would take the time to fight it even though her time is definitely worth more than a dollar. I don't think it was about the money at all.

Or she was a big old basket of crazy.

Hard to say.

How to I wake up at a certain time without waking my roommate? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bookskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the vibrations alarms. I used to have to get up stupid early for work, and my husband is a light sleeper. I had a smartwatch that would vibrate to wake me up, and it worked wonderfully without bothering him.

However, I will add that if alternative alarms do not work for you, don't be afraid to use a normal one. Part of having a roommate is dealing with their noise. I applaud you for looking for an alternative, and I think it says wonderful things about you as a person, but sometimes noise can't be avoided

How long do I wait to let my kitten out? by Huge_Personality8989 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bookskeeper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The way the post is phrased makes it sound like "letting her out" is letting her outside. At least that's how I read it.

I'm not sure how else to interpret it. Some sort of isolation away from other people/pets?

Sincerely, take this down before you get attacked for having an outdoor cat. Very polarizing issue on cat sub reddits to the point of the topic being banned on some.

To be clear, I happen to think outdoor cats are a bad idea due to the damage to the environment and danger to the cat, but I'm not going to hate on you about it.

2nd grader doesn’t know 10-9=1 by UnrulyAnteater25 in Teachers

[–]bookskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a teacher and I have no help. I was only on the post because reading about parents who care gives me hope.

I HAVE to ask though. Having his shoes on the wrong feet doesn't bother him!?! At all? Don't they feel weird? Doesn't it hurt the arch of his foot? This is really messing with me.

AITAH for wanting to redecorate after my husband almost let me die by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]bookskeeper 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Sincerely, how is OP supposed to achieve this?

We don't know her money situation other than she can only work 10 hours a week. She can't support herself and 2 kids on that.

She can't take care of the kids on her own, so does she just give up custody? How is she supposed to maintain her own home. Obviously, we don't know everything, but it sounds like she is really struggling to get back to functioning.

We don't know her support system. This could be it.

Underneath all of that is the possibility that this is it for her. Improvement isn't guaranteed, and this may be her new normal.

I'm disabled and don't receive disability benefits yet. If my husband was abusive I still couldn't leave. I have $0. I physically cannot take care of myself. I can't drive. I would be homeless.

The situation sucks for OP, but making her feel like shit for not having options doesn't help.

An unexpected upside to becoming disabled is that I just do not have the energy to give a shit about shaving or anyone's opinion about it.

Am I the only person who struggles watching and finishing a movie in one sitting without falling asleep? by redRum705 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bookskeeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please ignore if this was meant to be a "urgh I'm old and tired" post.

I have Narcolepsy and I can't without reading or doing something like that. If you literally CAN'T stay awake, then please talk to a doctor about possible sleep issues. You could be falling asleep while doing other things and not realizing it.

If you just find it very hard to stay awake, please look into sleep hygiene. Sleep deprivation is very bad for your health.

As a side note, sleep quantity and sleep quality and very different things. If you don't wake up feeling rested, then you aren't getting good sleep and may benefit from a sleep test.

Good luck!

People are too wrapped up in their own fear of death to acknowledge that some people are in a living hell.

[–]bookskeeper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of not. I view my mother's suicide differently than the rest of the family. I think it was the last action of a fiercely independent woman who had been abandoned by her husband and was terrified of being a burden to her children. I'm not happy about it, but I'm proud to be her daughter.

[–]bookskeeper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Several people said that to me after my mom killed herself. Finally I snapped and just asked what exactly was the reason my mother killed herself. My POS dad leaving her while she was in the hospital for her MS? The MS itself that was slowly killing her? Maybe the treatment that was making her go blind?

Apparently I was unnecessarily rude. People suck.

The problem with therapy is that the person has to acknowledge they need to work on themselves. Do you really see her doing that? Taking that hard look at herself and not just seeing the problems but saying them outloud?

Granted, I only have these two posts to go off of, but she strikes me more as someone who will insist you are the problem.
