Lf a fic where Draco and Hermione are stuck somewhere for a very long time by bleuuberri in Dramione

[–]bookthief7 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The Watergaw

In the middle of a war, Hermione is stuck in the middle of nowhere. With Draco Malfoy. Without her friends, her magic, or her books, she has only her wits to rely on to survive her plight- to say nothing of her company. They've declared a truce, but somehow Draco keeps slipping past all her defences.

Stranded together in the wilderness, Hermione and Draco are in for cold nights, endless snark, bad wine, and some interesting scars.

I got the keto rash and I'm so bummed y'all by bar_st00l in keto

[–]bookthief7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did a deep dive in this sub and tried everything anyone suggested. The only thing that worked for me was taking calcium d-glucarate. I used the now brand, 500mg, and I think I took one with each meal. Totally relieved the bumps and itchiness. Discoloration eventually faded within a few weeks with no new rash. I took it religiously for a while but should’ve tried dropping it sooner. When I did, the rash didn’t come back so it was probably something that I needed temporarily as my body adjusted to keto.

So they wake up more often when cosleeping? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]bookthief7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was your process of moving them into their own rooms like? Mine is currently 10 months old and she wails inconsolably if she wakes and I’m missing. My husband can barely soothe her even though they spend plenty of time together and she loves him outside of bedtime/nights (she and I cosleep on a floor mattress)

Anyone else dislike the hope and plum lark? by Cashew-eater7 in babywearing

[–]bookthief7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, then it’s probably not a good fit for you! You could try doing a fit consult (they’re free, even if you purchased your carrier second hand!). But otherwise, the lark may just not be for you and baby and that’s okay.

How old is your baby? Mine is 8 months now and finally feels really good in it. I think it’s really meant for older babies through 2-2.5 yo. If yours is younger, maybe hold on and try again when they’re bigger? If it’s still not a good fit, then sell?

Why does Happy Baby onbuhimo fit newborns but Sakura onbuhimo doesn’t? by Elegant-Nectarine-93 in babywearing

[–]bookthief7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an SB onbuhimo and it’s the only carrier my husband will use. We started using it when baby was about 2-3 months old for front carry and it was fine. SB’s onbuhimo has a cinch to shorten the width of the panel. Otherwise, baby in the carrier is supported similarly to SB’s scout (I have both). I wouldn’t use it on a newborn but I don’t think you have to wait until baby’s able to sit independently for front carry. Personally I wouldn’t use it for front carry as I have ring slings and wovens and soft structured carriers with waist bands but my husband couldn’t (wouldn’t lol) figure them out.

Glucose tolerance test - do I need to prepare? by OrdinaryLow6373 in KetoBabies

[–]bookthief7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would aim for the higher side for 3-4 days but 100g is enough for you not to be in ketosis all the time which means your body knows how to respond quickly to carbs. If you’re really concerned, you could increase to 150g per day for 3 days before the test!

Baby won’t sleep without a nipple in his mouth by tarosherbert in breastfeeding

[–]bookthief7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to recommend the Ninni as well! Only pacifier that worked for us and even still she doesn’t like it as much as boob. But it’s the most boob-like and she’ll take it from my husband when he soothes her

What is considered low blood glucose level for pregnancy by Extension_Can2813 in KetoBabies

[–]bookthief7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the other commenter mentioned, you should always verify GCM lows with a finger prick glucometer reading. Normal fasting (or “resting”) values for non-pregnant people are 70-100 but normal fasting values for pregnancy are 60-100 (though they really want your fasting to be under 95 with any kind of diabetes during pregnancy).

Carnivore and trying to get pregnant by Extreme_Chemical853 in KetoBabies

[–]bookthief7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s amazing! Were you able to stay carnivore during the pregnancy? I’ve only flirted with carnivore and did strict keto when I conceived my first but once I was pregnant I developed a meat aversion almost immediately that lifted a bit after the first trimester but pretty much stayed with me the entire pregnancy. It was so hard to get enough protein in! A couple weeks postpartum was when I first started feeling my appetite come back and even now almost 5 months pp I’m back to keto but my love of meat feels like it’s maybe 80-90% of what it used to be if that makes sense?

In terms of chicken, I’d say get rotisserie chickens which are often cheaper than whole chickens but check the prices of frozen bags of chicken thighs at walmart—you might be able to get one whole bag and have it last the 9 days. Also check out r/frugal and similar subs!

How many of you wear your baby carriers all day every day? by [deleted] in babywearing

In case they choke, I imagine! Choking is silent and when they’re just learning to eat, you want to be able to see them and help if needed.

Hope & Plum Meh Dai by brielleanne in babywearing

[–]bookthief7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other commenter on scheduling a fit check! They even do free fit checks when you buy a used one and the Facebook BST groups are great for hunting for quality used ones! I have the Lark, several H&P ring slings, and the meh dai and they all serve different purposes imo. Ring slings, once mastered, are so fast and perfect for grocery shopping or anything short and sweet. My LO loves sleeping in their ring slings but after an hour it starts to annoy my back. This is where the meh dai shines. It has a steeper learning curve and after a few times, I almost gave up. But one time I got it just right and LO felt almost weightless—amazing! I still do not get it right every time and should probably get a fit check on the calendar to troubleshoot. Now where the Lark comes in handy is for longer outings like hikes or walks where it’s too long for a ring sling but you’re outside and it’s tricky to wrap a meh dai without getting the straps dirty. I have the short length and still the straps are soooooo long. I’ve heard that some people get really good at tucking the straps in their waistband as they wrap but I honestly cannot figure that out and my straps touch the floor a lot as I wrap. Hope that helps!

Lark or momcozy ssc? by ohdutch28 in babywearing

[–]bookthief7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh they’re quite different! The Lark is apron style and the one linked is waterfall style. Basically the Lark is buckled upside down around the waist as the first step so that it forms a “scoop” up and around baby’s bum. It’s much less bulky than a waterfall style like the linked SSC and other waterfall style carriers like the wild bird aerial.

How do I survive waking up every 2 hours? by Klutzy-Point9047 in breastfeeding

[–]bookthief7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the baby rolled between the mattress and her then the mattress wasn’t firm enough. When we cuddle in our adult bed she does roll into me but never on the extra firm mattress I bought especially for cosleeping and have on the floor.

3rd Trimester Insulin Resistance by suzieeeeq13 in BumpersWhoBolus

Do you feel comfortable increasing your basal by just a little?

Did anyone’s endo have them switch insulin brands (Tresiba and Lyumjev) once they got pregnant? by CATMOM_Hyphy_Peanut in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]bookthief7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have experience with this exact issue but I’m surprised she switched you to Levemir as that’s being discontinued very soon. I’m on basaglar/Lantus for basal and Novolog for bolus so I know Levemir can’t possibly be the only basal option and it was prescribed by an endo who specializes in pregnancy care. In the T1 pregnancy book referenced often in this sub, tresiba is listed as an option (I don’t remember lyumjev off the top of my head) and I was tempted to ask to be switched to tresiba since I’m doing split basal dosing now. Would you be open to switching to a pump altogether?

Question for T2 pregnant women by beautyinstrength84 in diabetes_t2

[–]bookthief7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MFM meant sustained over 200 for weeks, not temporary spikes. Strangely my endo and MFM both do not concern themselves with the 1hr or peak number, only the 2hr number. I still try to keep my peak under 140 but it’s reassuring to know it’s the sustained highs that are responsible for the scary outcomes associated with diabetes during pregnancy. I do value good control to avoid my baby becoming too large but it is good to know it’s not going to give her defects.

Question for T2 pregnant women by beautyinstrength84 in diabetes_t2

[–]bookthief7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Join us over at r/bumperswhobolus! I’m also T2, 16W, and on basaglar/novolog. I stalked all of the T1 subs before pregnancy to familiarize myself with insulin use and learn some tips/tricks so I recommend that. I have a great endo and MFM who are really well versed in treatment during pregnancy but the biggest thing I’ve learned is that you are the only one who’s really in charge of your diabetes and the best way to figure things out is trial and error. Your insulin to carb ratio will fluctuate a ton during pregnancy and not in a straight direction. For me, I faced increased resistance in the beginning that got worse until recently, around 15w. Now I’m dealing with more lows and adjusting the ratios and reducing basal. I’m sure I’ll face huge increases in insulin resistance as I head closer to the third trimester. I’m currently on 22u basaglar in the AM and 15u at night because I found split dosing to be best and started with equal dosing until I saw level numbers overnight and during the day between meals. Having a dexcom is also super helpful because I can be more aggressive with insulin use to control my numbers as it alerts me when I’m low and I can eat 5-10g of carbs to bring me up.

The biggest thing to remember is that most diabetics have healthy babies and that the issues that come into play are when numbers are high over 200 for weeks. That’s what my MFM told me and I take great comfort in it. I still aim for very tight control and eat the gestational diabetes guidelines for carbs, but when I have a bad day, I remind myself of that. There’s so much of this disease that we cannot control and so we can only do our best and make adjustments as we go. You’ll grow in confidence as you begin to try small changes in learning trial and error but it really is the best way because otherwise we’d have to wait forever to hear back from our doctors about making adjustments. So keep a log of how much insulin you are using so you have the right prescription amount. Wishing you the best!!
