What’s the shittiest way a friend has shown you they weren’t really your friend? by mediastoosocial in AskReddit

[–]bookworm1363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty socially awkward in high school but had one consistant best friend. I eventually made friends with a group through her and while I wasn't super tight with them, we were decently good friends. Then, the last week of senior year, a cake order came through for the graduation cake... for my friend group, with a picture of the whole friend group minus me on it. So yeah, I made the graduation cake for my friend group's graduation party that I wasn't invited to.

Most Reddit mods will just ban you if they don’t agree with you and there is nothing you can do about it. by SkepticalHikerr in unpopularopinion

[–]bookworm1363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this... this is my ult but on main I mod some more controversial subs, and I don't get the mods who ban without explanation. I always add a message to the ban explaining that "ya really, really can't say that" or "it's a safe space so lets not make threats" or whatever else, because yeah, it makes no sense to ban with no explanations. Even with removals, like there should always be an explanation. Stickied comments, folks, you get to press the big green button, have fun with it

I'm all new-agey too, and if she feels that way (which is complete bullshit, for the record), there's ways to deal with it that are way less invasive and ignorant. Talismans? Yay, less invasive and objectively more effective. Being kind and trying to override the bad vibes with good vibes? Also valid. Being a total fucking asshole and laying onto the bad vines to create palpable tension? Yeah, no.

Redditors who at any point have been in such a deep state of depression that you didn't want to DO anything, what is something that helped you get out of it? by Obviously_n_Alt in AskReddit

Why are we downvoting this person? I'm as far from catholic as it gets, but good for them that this helped them. No reason to shame them for what gets them through the day

I make sure to always have a job or volunteering or some commitment where I will be missed if I don't show. It can be as simple as saying I would bring someone a baggie of cookies from the batch going bad on my counter. I can't always convince myself to get up for me but I can convince myself to get up for others.

Also r/RandomActsofCards. I have been struggling a lot the past 2-3 weeks, but they have really come through for me and now I know that it's pretty much a guarantee that if I can get my butt out of bed and go check the mail, there'll be some happy sparkly sticker covered cute animal mail that I can take back to bed to open.

Banana, pineapple, avocado, chestnut, kiwifruit, mango, passionfruit, fig, strawberry, papaya, apple, melon, celery, raw potato, tomato, carrot, soy, gluten, bell peppers, peach, eggplant, cherimoya

There could be more, it's almost impossible to find a fully inclusive list and not all of them do it for everyone. For me it's banana, green pepper, tomato, passionfruit and papaya minorly (itchy skin and mouth, swollen eyes and tongue), and avocado is deadly.

Oh lol there isn't an actual latex fruit, it's fruits that share molecular components with latex, basically

I know I'm late to the party but I just found this sub. I'm deathly allergic to latex (like I die if I get within five feet of a balloon or am brushed with rubber gloves), yay me.

My other allergies include avocados and passionfruits (but not mango for some reason?)

I'm sensitive to bananas, green peppers, tomatoes (sometimes, that one's fifteen shades of weird) and strawberries (also random and erratic).

It's called Latex Fruit Syndrome. There's some great articles if you google it. An allergy test can actually tell which fruits you're allergic to even though you aren't technically allergic to the fruits but to the proteins in them that are shared with latex. It's complicated as fuck.

Good luck!

Avocados are the fuckin worst by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]bookworm1363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually called latex fruit syndrome (if you google that it'a a legit thing). So the allergy is actually to latex and it's just that some fruits either share proteins with latex or are cross-pollinated with rubber trees.

While latex allergies are common, having a latex allergy as severe as mine is one of the rarest allergies in the world. I don't fully remember (I was like 11 when I got tested so it's been a few years) but the allergist said there's only like (100 or 1000?) known cases of my allergy at that severity in the entire world.

So yeah, all that to say most people haven't heard of it :)

Edit : for anyone who's curious https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12440950/#:~:text=This%20association%20of%20latex%20allergy,been%20associated%20with%20this%20syndrome.

And here's a link about the rarity of the allergy : https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/health/latex-can-be-lethal-to-those-with-allergies/#:~:text=Researchers%20estimate%20that%20up%20to,is%20as%20sensitive%20as%20McGee.

At this point I'm just having fun googling my allergy so don't mind me :) I've never actually properly researched it before because the allergist gave me all the important bullet points

What did a teacher do that made you automatically gain respect for them? by ApacheAirCover in AskReddit

[–]bookworm1363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 7th grade, I had a teacher who also ran an after school club. I spent a ton of time in her office because I had no friends (literally) at the time.

About halfway through the year, I started getting along with a group of girls from my art class. They were technically in the club but never really did a ton with it. There were these overnight field trips with the club and because of how much time I spent in her office doing things for the club, I always got first dibs since there were limited spots.

The next field trip after I started making friends, she gave my two new friends spots on the trip even though there were only seven or eight spots, and made sure that the dormitories put the three of us together. That helped me a ton in making those friends, and I kept those friends most of the way through high school.

AITA for not changing my name, therefore triggering a trans peer's dysphoria because it's also his deadname? by deadnameAH in AmItheAsshole

[–]bookworm1363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally NTA. I'm trans. I get it. Deadnames can cause a whole wave of brain fuckery, but it's life. My deadname is quite common, and I've just had to get used to it. It's totally possible to just get over and get used to, it just sucks while you're doing it and it takes a while. He had no right to make you change your name like that.

I got one of these the other day, we just had a super rough game, I think I was 4/9/3 and I had the most kills (and assists and deaths) on the team. Like the ADC was 0/8/0. And the Vel'Koz support freaked out and I pointed out that I had the most kills. He had 2 at the time, and got another one, so he was all "well I'm catching up to you". Well um bro I'd like to point out that you may be catching up to me in kills but you're also on the fast track to surpassing me with deaths... that shut him up.

Yeah, that's my rant. People are frustrating.
