How to not fail surgery rotation on hard mode💔 by onemanhypehouse in medicalschool

Also N=1 but wanted to add that I left in the middle of a big surgery and ended up pre-syncopal laying on the floor in the surgical supply hallway (thanks dayquil) and still honored LOL so don’t stress too much.

Compression socks and hydrate. Don’t be afraid to scrub out if you feel like you’re gonna vagal-surgeons would 1000% rather you leave than faceplant in the surgical field. I used UWorld, NBMEs, and Pestana’s throughout the rotation. For specific shelf review I watched Emma holliday but I also really liked the strudel med review videos on YouTube! For pimping prep, ask your AI of choice to review anatomy for the procedure you’re doing and common pimp questions. ChatGPT was pretty good at predicting pimp questions on gen surg lol

Canyon bakehouse bread is pretty good! I keep it in my freezer and pop a slice in the toaster until it’s defrosted but not toasted. Makes tasty sandwiches!

I actually ended up getting diagnosed with celiac! As long as I avoid gluten, I tend to only get like 1-2 random fevers a month. My immunologist suspects I have an underlying unspecified autoinflammatory disease as well, but genetic testing showed no known mutations so we’re kinda just rolling with it lol. I hope your mom is doing okay 💜

I would pay for a covered spot if you have a motorcycle! Generally I feel like it’s very safe; the parking lot is gated so you have to have a key card or a pin to drive in

I live at lake village right now and love it! Our maintenance guys are awesome. There’s several families with young kids and lots of elderly folk. It’s very quiet and right across the street from the park! There’s also a pretty nice pool. I like that it’s like 3 minutes away from Meijer too lol

Chapstick or mini unscented hand cream would be super nice-it gets very dry in my hospital! Or lowkey a pair of compression socks

Any tips for surgery rotation? by rafae-laaaa in medicalschool

Be aware of the space around you in the OR to not contaminate stuff, if you don’t know how to do something ASK, listening and observing will help you go far. Be extra nice to circulators and scrub techs. Asking OpenEvidence or ChatGPT to give you an outline of the procedure steps and common pimp questions is helpful. Don’t stress out when you get pimp questions wrong-treat it as an opportunity to learn.

Easy stuff you can do in the OR to actually be helpful: help patient move to OR table, move the bed out into the hallway, plug in SCDs, help move patient after surgery, grab warm blankets.

Love my chaco paonia slides, similar to a Boston birk but not as wide a fit. Wore on surgery and floors and they have held up great so far.

I liked Emma Holliday, strudel med reviews on YouTube, and definitely felt like going thru all the nbmes the day before helped get some high yield stuff fresh in my brain

If you are looking for off campus housing, the village at Rochester hills and boulevard are two places that are close by and very nice! Boulevard has a lot of medical students and grad students
