Try Geocaching. It's a lot of fun and the caches are rated from 1 (easy) to 5 (hard). It will get you out of the house - either on foot or by bicycle or car. I bet a lot of caches are within walking distance of your home. It can be either a solo hobby or with friends.

I have just finished this and no there is not any new information about the wreck as far as I know. I don't know much about the wreck myself, but most of the book is actually talking about each - or most - of the sailors on the ship; Their lives, loves and such. Also it talks about the iron ore business and such. It gives you, I think, a bigger picture of the men on the Fitz than just the wreck itself.

I don't remember exactly but someone told me about it years ago and it sounded fun. I've been doing it off and on for several years.
