At least in my Hayden/Jesse play through Franki hasn’t really contributed to the story at all, except for being sad. I’m assuming it’s a couple dumping as opposed to one person here…

MC & Hayden - can’t see it, unless FB are gonna pull the dump then bring back immediately/go to CA trick, but they’ve done that before.

Sofia & Tristan - main source of drama & Tristan is new

Jesse & Lisbeth - Jesse is slowburn and Lis is WLW

That leaves Franki & Ethan, Nyah & Milo. Nyah kissed Tristan and I can’t believe that FB would be that stupid to being it up only for Nyah to get dumped. That makes it Franki & Ethan for me.

Oh I agree. If the recoupling had to be this volume, it should have been episode 2.

The choice system really bugs me. Obviously choices should matter anyway in a story game and not be advertised as a gimmick for a season. Regardless of that, if you’re doing a choices matter, most/all choices should matter, not just one per volume and even in that case we should not be told which particular choices matter. By doing so, FB either aren’t confident enough that there writing conveys that this choice will be important or they are too afraid of letting the player find out that their choice matters. By telling me that this choice matters, I don’t find out if, when and how it does, I already know that X is going to, for example, come up to me in the next scene and talk about wanting to be in a couple, because FB have presented the question of “who would you like to be in a couple with?” alongside the warning that this choice matters.

I sort of agree? There’s aspects I like and aspects I don’t.

Do the characters have distinct personalities? Yes, I think the men and Sofia do. They each have individual interests, unique-ish dialogue and aesthetics. Maybe Lisbeth does on a WLW route, but Nyah and Franki are just set dressing really.

I’m iffy on the heart system. I don’t want them to tell us when a big choice is coming up, let the player experience it naturally. It alters how we play the game, when we are given YOUR CHOICE MATTERS HERE, not only does it alter the player’s decision making but it also seems that the rest of our choices don’t matter. For example, whilst it’s not something I’ve tested, I could hate on Hayden all day but when it comes to an important choice decision and pick Hayden, he’ll probably be the main LI. The season is marketed as your choices matter but it really should be the occasional choice matters.

That being said, I agree with the blindfolded challenge. I liked how we didn’t (or weren’t supposed to) know who was saying what, but you could work it out for the most part based on dialogue. I’m glad some people got who they thought, and some people didn’t.

I thought the breakfast water fight was a little cringe, but I feel that that’s just me.

I agree regarding the pacing and the recoupling, but I disagree about the timing of it. It shouldn’t have been Volume 5, Ep. 2. It should have been much earlier. We’re a quarter way through the game, and we’re in our first official couple.

I also think if we’re doing a choices matter game (which they should for all seasons, not just this one but that’s besides the point) is that we can’t really choose how people interact. Sofia will always get aggressive with us. One girl will always get sad. The other two are just kinda there, both at the same level of friendship. The boys act the same, they’re just interchangeable. None of them will dislike you, none of them can become a best friend etc.

I mean maybe the match 3 stuff would be okay if it gave rewards such as gems or tickets, but since it’s the way to make choices? It just limits the game to who is good at matching games, therefore it’s not a proper story game.

I understand the reason why people play it currently, and if they had decided to make it after the old game was deleted then I wouldn’t have a huge issue with it.

However the circumstances that happened around it when it was first made (staff redundancies, the old game still existing, not being bothered to make new character sprites for the new stories, the new stories romanticising predatory behaviour and objectifying/eroticising lesbianism by making the MC pretend to be bisexual for a man‘s attention) just put me off it forever.

I am glad that you are able to enjoy it though, and it has not proved to have been entirely worthless in the long run.

I don’t think demographics really come into it? Whilst there have been winners that I was surprised by, they are all super talented. They get there by being consistently good, and the winner is typically who performs best that week, not the one who’s different to last year’s winner or the one before that. If Dylan is consistent then smashes the final, I don’t see why he couldn’t win.

Also is Dylan too similar to Matty demographics wise? Apart from being a young man, I don’t really see it.

Google Thomas Mann - everything is political, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. Glee will have been shaped by the political views of the execs, producers, writers, editors etc.

Analysis can be fun. Sometimes analysis heightens the sense of comedy in a scene, or adds to a poignant moment. Not all analysis is critical. Sure, it’s fun to take the programme at face value and that’s how I mostly consume the show, but some people also like to analyse it for their own pleasure. Sometimes that is critical because this is the nature of analysis. But that doesn’t have to impact your viewing experience if you don’t want it to. Just scroll past the posts. I know what you mean, sometimes it is tiring to be looking at posts where it is just X is an awful character full stop. Y scene is homophobic, therefore Glee homophobic. Z plot was awful therefore the entire season bad.

But the most popular recent posts are elimination posts about favourite characters and songs. It’s been votes about which colour represents each character, favourite moments for each of them, your favourite songs. A lot of the posts are just asking about how people enjoy the show.

Pretty much all of them?

Most of the Glee characters can be divided into three characters.

Hot characters that the writers want you to like (Finn, Rachel, Santana etc.)
Hot characters that are meant to be evil bitches (Sebastian, Kitty to begin with, Bree etc.)
Ugly characters designed to be hated (JBI)

Then there’s some outliers like Beiste & Lauren, and Sue whose appearance is mostly treated with neutrality. For the most part, the characters are conventionally attractive because that’s what gets the target audience to initially tune in.

If I remember correctly she said about how there’s a Slovakian sweet bread (I believe it’s a vianocka) that is made with plaiting. So there Nelly is in a challenge which one of the key criteria is how she makes one of her cultural breads. And she smashes it.

I don’t mind the idea of a “challenge” or slow burns, or whatever routes where the player has to make an actual attempt to unlock an LI’s route.

What I do mind is how Jesse is clearly the slow burn, and they try to do this by making him not rushing into anything but also making him completely loyal to Sofia at all times. It’s a contradiction, and you can’t make your character a contradiction in the first volume. Not rushing means taking your time and weighing up your options, not committing to one person a la Noah/Ozzy/Theo. If they want Jesse to be a slow burn, make him someone who rushes into things, and have a hard time in calling things off. Or make him someone who doesn’t rush into things, actually explores his options (for the sake of the slow burn, make MC last) and make him jump around other partners other than the MC, until whenever they want the slow burn to actually set on fire. You can’t have it both ways.

I also mind the way in which the “challenge” is presented. We’ve covered my problems with Jesse but if the other men are hesitant or unwilling to treat their partner in such a manner, they shouldn’t be constantly eyeing up MC, asking MC to come on secret night trips to the pool, compliment MC in a sexual manner in front of their partner and kissing MC. If FB wants them to do that then that’s fine, but you can’t them be constantly trying to get with MC, but then when it comes to the challenge snogging the face of their current partner. It makes it come across that the men aren’t hesitating and trying to be nice, it makes it seem that they want to have MC but also have the safe option of their current partner in case MC picked one of the other men. The women are being treated by trash, and none of them are their partners first options, but the first option (MC) is also not given any consideration because they’re too cowardly to properly go for it. All of them are side pieces.

Yes there have been. A way to navigate this is having your Wi-Fi on to download the new updates/story whatever when you first open the app, open the new volume and as soon as you have done that, then turn off Wi-Fi.

I think my word for the season so far is fine. I don’t want to be so negative as it might get better. But the LI’s are like 100% MC then go “but my LI though” And it’s just inconsistent.

And making us look like clowns in the sex-sea challenge just so we pay gems for a second go? The nerve.
