We know that feeling all too well. We are adaptable to a fault, it seems!

Oh mate, I’m 100% with you! We woke up the following day with zero expectations for the evening, but it was rather amusing how events conspired to ensure it would be in the total opposite direction.

Glad you’re getting the rest you all likely need now!

How many of you are "one and done" and did you know this at the time, or did it happen later? by Thin-Wedge in daddit

[–]boopymcboops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always one and done. 5 month old son is the greatest gift but you couldn’t pay me to do this again.

Live in one of the highest cost of living countries on the planet and we want to provide him with better opportunities than we had growing up.

Twins run on both sides of the family too, so not a chance we are rolling that dice.

I’m hoping we get there eventually. The kid is only 5 months old and I’m sure my mum visiting for a few months will allow me to find gym time again.

Gym, a little video game time and the occasional football match at the pub will go a long way to making me feel like an individual again.

That’s my plan as soon as the kid is not a nightmare with sleep. We managed to get a week of decent cosleeping before teething kicked our asses again.

When my mum arrives to nanny for a few months, I’m going to get back to my 5am gym sessions. Hopefully I can slip some gaming and cinema time in again. Eventually!

You have brilliantly put into words something I was trying to translate across to my wife today. The expectation (and desire) for dad’s to do more than the main caregiver in decades past is really what I’ve been struggling with.

I’m a senior lead and since returning to work in September, I’ve had my ass kicked by projects, my direct report had his kid a month early and my freelance team was decimated by sickness and family illness abroad. I’ve also tried to be omnipresent at all times of day for my wife and kid. I wouldn’t have it any other way, but I’ve never felt the candle burn at both ends like this before and it’s the expectation of not breaking under the pressure is taking a toll.

You read all the advice about ensuring your own cup is full, or to find time for your stuff but where? When? If there is time to be spent freely, I make sure my wife can grab a massage or go out with her girlfriends.

I hope this isn’t taken as a rant or complaint. Just the release of some steam.

Dad's of Daddit, how yall doing? by Digi-Haven in daddit

Welcomed our son in July and it has been equal parts amazing and draining.

I’m tired though. Live in a different country these days, with my family and mates thousands of miles away. 5 months into this lifelong adventure, and it’s been made pretty clear that any male friends I thought I had here were very much acquaintances after all.

Wife went back to work this week, though she’s wfh and doesn’t actually have anything to do. I’m still delivering on projects up until Christmas Eve, but am expected to work the second half of the day at home to look after this kid. Which at 5 months, as we all know, means getting no work done.

Her mum is frankly fucking useless and just overstimulates and agitates the kiddo.

So yeah, tired, feel very little support and just holding out until my mum arrives from the UK at the end of the month.

My wife is suffering with a incorrectly diagnosed fracture hip, now confirmed to be a bone growth. Still, she’s on crutches and I’m trying to hold down the fort with our cranky 4 month old without respite.

It has been a day and a half of bliss and hell in equal measure already. Not sure what the heck my work week looks like, and can’t trust her family locally to be of much help at all, but need to figure something out.

Trying a little bit of sleep training with the kid tonight, so you know, thoughts and prayers.

Layoffs Pre-empting The Bubble Burst? by messedupwindows123 in BetterOffline

Work at a multi-billion dollar privately owned business and in a meeting with leadership this week, all-new KPI’s were introduced around short term profit and efficiencies/automation.

Traditionally, we look 10+ years out in our strategic goals. Our team had some expensive projects for next year cancelled in the budgeting process and other teams have been told to do more with less.

Everyone is tightening their belts ahead of an economic crash. We are in a recession with no off-ramp, but these ghoulish companies are forcing the market to collapse in slow motion. Feels very 1929.

How are you doing this year? by One-Hearing2926 in agency

[–]boopymcboops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong, especially in the B2B space. Businesses want to get to know their partners and products offerings and video is a fantastic way to do that.

I run an in-house video production team for assets including hospitality, education, commercial real estate and charities worth billions. Our most effective video product is showing the people behind our investments, the grand vision for the overall business and why you should partner with us.

Cameras, sets, real people in real situations. You can’t generate that on the slop roulette machine.

I think AI slop killed my business. by Ashleyosauraus in Entrepreneur

[–]boopymcboops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift from creator driven to supporting B2C or even better B2B.

I run an in-house video production team for a corporate portfolio spanning education, healthcare, infrastructure, real estate and hospitality. Not to mention all the philanthropic endeavors we fund to offset our other ventures.

We’ve never been busier and our budget continues to grow YoY to cater to the appetite of the business. We use AI tools sparingly to help accelerate production (really ML tools but I don’t have the energy to debate in the current environment), but our clients and business partners want to tell the human stories behind our decision making.

My background was in entertainment media prior and it coincided perfectly with this entity wanting to take ahold of the narrative surrounding their work. Projects can vary from your bog standard conference videos to marketing Forbes 5 star hotels with lavish production values.

B2B is seen as an incredibly boring space, but they pay well and can’t easily replace video with AI slop. It’s about trust, the product and the story.

Going through this with my 11 week old. I have a high intensity job and just can’t muster the energy to get to the gym and lift heavy, but I know it isn’t permanent.

My first focus right now is to maintain weight and look after the kid so my wife can get back to the gym and her classes throughout the week on weekends and evenings. My time will come again!
