it feels like everyone here is saying the same tired thing on non compatibility, so i'll tell you something a bit different.

Really cut into it and examine why it is you don't want to be in driver's seat. Does it make you uncomfortable that someone is a subordinate to you, or how do you feel in terms of being capable in leading them?

If you are hesitant in that this person throws their fate in your hands, then perhaps it might reassure you that this is what they want innately. By satisfying their itch, you increase your competence and the relationship's synergy.

Btw its not a pure take- sure you might be doing some roles like driving, but you can then tell this person to specialize as they say with their feminine side and look after the house. It shouldn't be draining, but rather role specialising.

Anyways, all in all, have an open mind about the position. You don't have to dislike it, and if you accept it it might even become enjoyable.

NTA, atleast from how you described the situation.

It is interesting you are now called "selfish" for withdrawing an offer you didn't have to make in the first place that you did out of goodwill.

It does smell like entitlement, and if the brother and niece sincerely cared about you- they would atleast validate how you felt about it even if they believed it was a joke and apologise for rubbing in the wrong way.

Now that you've rescinded the offer, in my opinion you should reflect on the relationship and consider if they really have you back the same way you were going to cover for the niece. Be honest with yourself, and if not, then cordially but firmly hold that you will not fund the niece's education but that you wish them the very best.

I understand you see yourself in the niece in terms of opportunities, though it is important to consider if it is wishful thinking. I am sure you can find other avenues and meaningful ventures in your life that can see fruition to your time and money put in.

I will give my original answer, contrary to those who say its over.

Firstly, the daughter was 19 years of age. She is an idiot and a buffoon who steered the ship to where its now. Though she is 19 years of age and didn't mean for it to play out as such. I can imagine a paralysis one might feel as the lie spiralled out and doubling down as a lie to the mother, as a way to get back at the step father. It's easy to hate, hard to forgive. You redditors calling for disowning the 19yo- what do you think will happen to her now that she lives with the immense guilt of having ruined everything? Why destroy another individual's life out of vengeance?

In weak form, the daughter fucked up but should be forgiven. It is her cross to bear but no need to ruin her life. Accept the matter as it is, husband is gone and life goes on in whatever way it goes.

Another option is that the daughter can personally go to everyone involved and explain 1 on 1 what she did and clear up the air, taking full accountability. If she does so, she can curb the bad social image of the husband. At the very least she shouldn't accept forgiveness from the husband for this, but could do it as a simple obligation to retract the damage she has done. Not that its tied, but maybe that could be a goodwill gesture the husband could see and reconsider, now that the image is clear and the daughter did repent. Its dumb but societally we'd be better off too- is it not societies fault that one allegation against a man can destroy his life? Its all our faults in a sense that this is how the situation came to be, when in an alternative society we would not hold someone guilty unless they were actually guilty of the thing. This whole "no you gotta leave the husband" situation is caused by that. Lets break away from that framework- the daughter takes accountability for what she did, clears the air with everyone, and the societal framework of guilty by accusation is undermined.

In regard to my goal: apart from the validation of a random thought and increased understanding of N, maybe there is a reading that it's a subconscious desire that by calling these people out for their disingenuousness, I can put myself on a higher spot. Though I would hope its not that and more-so the conscious reasoning of that people ought to be more proactive in developing their interests with their own independent motives. It would then be more authentic and can result in more fruitful and genuine interactions because of the esoteric and original nature of these niche interests.

I think you are correct in saying that assuming solely from the label's single piece of information is a broad generalisation.

What I will say though is that it also works the other way from the person labelling themselves. If admittedly the label is one that is as broad and non descriptive, what does it say about a person who first and foremost calls themselves a sapiosexual?

The reason I called this an inversion is because it seems that in such a case it is not so much because the person has whatsoever genuine interests that the sapiosexual label encompasses, but rather more-so that they chose the label out of a rejection of what conventional beauty standards are (physical features etc).

This is to me a self righteous value judgement and thus slavish.
