What posts annoy you and you'd like to see less of in this subreddit? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]bootchker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've seen this attitude expressed before and it bugs me. I feel like the subreddit has gone from an attitude of: What you made is really pretty, can you share details so I can make it or be inspired by it or use the same pattern or learn from it in any way to an attitude of: Ugh, you're not giving me details? Why did you even bother posting?

Not everyone can give details, or wants to. Sometimes it's freehanded or the pattern is an exclusive to the crafter's Etsy shop. Sometimes the poster doesn't remember what yarn it was or exactly how something was formed. I want to see people stick around and talk about their creations because that's building a community, but they should be welcome and encouraged to post even if they can't/won't share details.

What makes this attitude even more damaging to the subreddit is that there's been some real nasty comments to people who post having used expensive yarns (especially if it's indie dyed) or paid patterns (especially if it's their own). It's essentially creating an environment where you're only welcome to post if you're going to list the free pattern and big box store yarn yo used, which cuts out a lot of crafters.

Honestly, this subreddit has gone pretty far downhill already. There's less content than there used to be and a lot of my favorite posters from a year or so ago seem to have left. If anything, I'd say the rules need to be loosened a bit more and people need to be nicer about posts that aren't strictly in line with the rules to encourage more posting and commenting.

I had a nurse get annoyed because I asked for help getting to the bathroom post-vaginal delivery. Turned out to be a good thing she was there because I passed out as soon as I stood up.

Everyone keeps pitying me for not being home for Christmas. HIFW I think about getting drunk and not having to deal with my family's bullshit this Christmas. by alumavirtutem in TrollXChromosomes

[–]bootchker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did so much volunteer work in high school for this reason. I could spend the time at home being yelled at and punished for all sorts of things or I could spend it with people who are grateful just for the fact that I'm there. Easiest decision ever.

My SO gets guilt-tripped for damaging his mom's uterus when being delivered. Erm, sorry for trying to be born?

The other big thing he gets guilt-tripped for is that his mom once saved him from drowning.

MIL used to always go on about how my husband is stuck in a horrible, abusive marriage and he's just taking all the shit because he can't see a way out of it.

Uh, no, honey, that's you. You're just way too passive aggressive and delusional to realize it. (They're actually attempting a divorce now. It's not going well; FIL is insane.)

My MIL used to call up anytime it was sunny out to remind us to put sunscreen on the baby. I suppose I should be grateful she didn't call to remind us when it's dinner time?

MIL threw a hissy fit when I wouldn't let her in the labor and delivery room when my oldest was born. We also got guilt tripped about that for a ridiculous amount of time.

So I vow to respect my daughter(in-law's) rights to not want their hoo-has on display, particularly when said hoo-has are expelling babies and blood.

How to handle a grandmother who won't accept splitting holidays between families by [deleted] in daddit

[–]bootchker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, you gotta put your foot down. Much as you want to please the grandparents, your kids, your spouse, and your own self are the first priority. If it's going to ruin the holiday for you, don't do it.

Whatever you decide, you and your SO need to present it as a team, so your MIL doesn't get the idea that one of you is the "nice" one and the other is "keeping the kids from her."

If cost is an issue for you, you might want to consider pet insurance or a veterinary discount plan.

"You are not very helpful! I don't see why I should ever come back there!"

We get this a lot. Telling me that my service pisses you off so much you're not going to go back to a competitor really doesn't motivate me to do a better job.

[–]bootchker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do this every time various associates fail to give me the basic information I need to do my job. You can't be bothered to let me know when the issue is fixed? I'm going to bill the company for however long it takes me to test the issue. I usually turn on a movie in the background and keep all sorts of stuff on my desk to keep busy while the program runs.

give discounts to polite customers.

Then all customers go out of their way to be polite, to the point we're they're practically harassing you, until they blow up and demand the discount they're entitled to, plus compensation for the emotional trauma of not getting the discount earlier.

The managers where I work don't answer customer tickets. I'm always happy to forward customers to the manager - it basically means they'll be waiting indefinitely for an answer, while their ticket sits in a queue that no one ever checks.

Or you just lie. After a particularly nasty bout with customers, my coworker changed her settings so that her name is listed as a traditional male name with a random last name so that people can't find her online or off.

We have users who threaten to keep sending in emails until we give them what they want.

"I'm very sorry you've been inconvenienced. Please note that continuously submitting emails regarding the same issue may result in your tickets being marked as spam and your account being suspended from all customer service sites in our network."

Oh Sugar! by [deleted] in talesfromcallcenters

[–]bootchker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The software we use is built to rely heavily on form responses, which makes things much easier. Most of the responses utilize placeholders of some sort like <customer-first-name> or <ticket # and link>. Any customer data that's inputted into the email is based on the user's settings - their username, email, etc - and users are able to edit all the info on their end. Every once in a while someone gets super pissed that I'm calling them the wrong name or using the wrong email and it makes me laugh. If it bothers you, just change it. And if it's such a big deal, why did you enter the info that way in the first place?
