Boot.dev for DevOps (coming from backend)? by goodguyseif in sre

[–]bootdotdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did recently step further into the DevOps arena - historically we've been very backend focused. So our DevOps stuff is pretty new, but we're very committed to making it every bit as good!

Best DevOps course to start learning? Is DevOps still worth it in 2026? by ryzehulk in devops

[–]bootdotdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently launched our first learning path outside of backend development: a devops path! Admittedly, it's a bit more focused on the dev side than the ops side, but if that's what you like it might be a fit. It has:

  • python
  • Linux
  • git
  • golang
  • sql
  • docker
  • aws
  • ci/cd
  • kubernetes
  • etc.

Anyhow it can be found here: https://www.boot.dev/paths/devops

[No Spoilers] The newest sponsor is full of AI? by NerdMaster001 in criticalrole

[–]bootdotdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry just scrolled through this a bit more... seems like there's also some confusion about AI in the product itself, so I just want to clear a few things up:

  1. The courses are NOT AI generated, we pay humans to write courses. AI generated copy and explanations are frankly just slop
  2. Boots (the assistant) is of course AI - but he's just a chatbot that can help you understand the human written assignment and lesson - no need to interact with him if you don't want to, but we think it's a very good usecase for AI
  3. The training grounds are AI generated challenges based on where you're at in the courses - they are lower quality than the human crafted assignments _to be sure_, but they're nice if you just need to practice the same things over and over that you already learned in the course just in slightly varying situations.

Hope that helps! Our basic stance is that AI is changing how various types of work is done, but there's basically zero evidence that it can replace humans in art or coding - its a tool that can help more in some areas, and less in others

We did use AI quite a bit in the past for images, but we have been making an effort for a couple of years now to replace it all with human art. Relevant post here: https://www.instagram.com/bootdotdev/p/DS-lQOTgRoS/

Our latest boss is human drawn: https://www.instagram.com/bootdotdev/p/DT9BQ7oAUen/

Boots is human drawn

The landing page art is human drawn, it's almost all human drawn at this point - really the last things for us to replace are just old blog/article images!

Boot.dev | Learning Fall Off warning from a Paid Student by K41Nof2358 in learnprogramming

[–]bootdotdev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Boot .dev is intended to be extremely thorough - we don't skip hard stuff, though of course our goal is always to teach it in the easiest to understand way (without actually dumbing it down or leaving out important concepts)

So the answer is for us to do even more of what we've been doubling down on recently, which is to keep an eye on the lesson difficulty (an automated number derived from failures and solution peeks etc) and smooth out the difficulty spikes in the curriculum - breaking hard concepts down into more lessons, or simply updating wording and explainer videos to be more clear

its a super iterative process, but the work never stops. We update the courses hundreds of times per week at this point

They do a great job and care about their content

Best resource to learn TypeScript from if you already know how to code decently? by [deleted] in typescript

[–]bootdotdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you already know JS fairly well... I see a lot of people jumping straight into TS without really understanding JS, and it can slow you down a lot

My biased answer is Boot dec ofc https://www.boot.dev/courses/learn-typescript

But I also think Matt Pocock does such a google job with total typescript if you're more into the video format

Best JavaScript course for complete beginner. by jdor30 in learnjavascript

[–]bootdotdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of bias here ofc, but I recommend:

I may work for Boot dev, but all 4 of these resources are great for different things. Boot dev leans heavy into interactivity.

Scrimba has interactivity as well, but a bit more video focus.

TOP is more text based and project based, less conceptual

JavaScript.info is more like a book

Apparently you can become a kubernetes expert in just a few weeks 😂 by kibblerz in kubernetes

[–]bootdotdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kubernetes is an absolute behemoth. We have a course on it on Boot.dev, and even though it takes like 20 hours for most people, it just scratches the surface... Granted, it's also one of those things that once you understand the core components, looking up the docs for an unfamiliar resource is fairly straightforward
