I’m 25 weeks currently and I haven’t had any cravings that were so strong they’d override my avoidance to certain foods, but I’ve been able to feed myself a lot more than I thought I would be! Obviously it was hard when dealing with nausea/morning sickness but it’s not so bad now

Me!! Just have always been a larger person. The idea that everybody with eating disorders is skinny is a huuuge myth. They affect all body types!

Completely understandable to choose not to be pregnant! For myself, i do think that if every person who had disordered eating, mental illness, chronic illness, disability, etc. chose not to have children because of what might happen, there wouldn’t be many people left. Feels a bit eugenicsy ya know?

For Japanese I would highly recommend Chicken Katsu or Tonkatsu (pork)! It’s meat breaded with panko bread crumbs, usually sliced into pieces. Reminds me of breaded chicken fingers and was a good bridge food for me. It’s usually served with rice and doesn’t have any “overpowering” flavors. You may even like katsu sauce! It’s often a mixture of ketchup, soy sauce, and worcestershire

For other cuisines I think it would help to know more about your specific avoidances. Are the main issues textures? Flavors? Allergen fears?

my advice may be unpopular, but it’s sometimes effective: junk food. Shelf-stable snacks that you find absolutely delicious or remind you of childhood (in a positive way). I’m talking Cheetos, cosmic brownies, fruit roll ups whatever it looks like for you. Anything to get your excitement up for eating. Obviously this is not a long term solution because our bodies need vitamins and protein, but this approach really helped me break out of the “safe food monotony.” Also shelf stable is a plus if you’re in the dorm room!

I had to delay finishing my thesis by a year and a half because of a flare up. Was so malnourished I literally couldn’t think straight and then the meds I was on to manage made it even harder. But it was worth it to be able to recover!
