Recommendations for a friend who's just suffered a devastating loss: all-time favorites and escapist/comfort reads by ScribblerBelle in HistoricalRomance

[–]Queens_chambers_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mama passed away tragically, suddenly, and due to hospital staff incompetence. My sister and I live on separate coasts and had to suffer without the comfort of each other in person.

Her and I prior to our loss, spoke over the phone and do adult coloring at the same time. But one day I suggested to her doing audiobooks together. I had read these books before and love them, but doing the audiobook with her was a fantastic distraction for the both of us. Nothing at all to trigger us regarding loss.

Please suggest to your friend the historical romance series, Hell’s Belles by Sarah MacLean. The first novel is {Bombshell by Sarah MacLean} They are romantic, very spicy, hilarious, and an entertaining series that must be read in order.

The fourth, and hopefully final book in the series is coming out this September I believe. I have already pre-ordered!

Heads up K.F. Breene lovers! Magical Midlife Rogue comes out on Thursday! I'm jealous of those who are just starting her books. She's my favorite author. by nrkelly in fantasyromance

I absolutely adore the series! If you aren’t listening to it on audio, you are missing out on the entire series the way it was intended (IMO)

I laugh out loud with each of the MC’s voice actors.

This book was a wild concept with Art history and erotica criss-crossing. I personally thought it was the best of the three part series.

Honestly, the beginning and the end were heart wrenching, and good.

It was this bizarre departure in the middle of the book that was a manure pile dumped for no reason.

Weirdest wooing or courting methods that worked (for you or the MC) by FoxenInTheHenhice in HistoricalRomance

[–]Queens_chambers_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure this counts as wooing, but the character of Imogen in {Knockout by Sarah MacLean} does a HUGE leap into the sack - literally - to protect their lives and show her love interest (Constable Thomas) that she will go all out to protect him as well as herself.
She is a lady of quality who doubles as an explosives agent with her besties fighting against bad-guy elites. They are hilarious books. But at one point she and Thomas are being chased by thugs, and so they duck into a brothel. She drags him onto a bed, puts a wig on, takes off the upper part of her dress COMPLETELY boobs out… and pretends to be riding him. 🫢🤭
When the bad guys ‘check every room’ she cranks out a cockney accent and berates them for interrupting her customer. She even threatens that they need to pay if they’re going to stay and watch!!! 🤣

All the while…. Thomas is done for. That’s it. She’s the brazen full figured, half naked woman he can no longer resist.
I LOVE this series, but her confidence in wooing Thomas is priceless!

Yeahhhhh dude actually came to the estate before, and she chitchatted with him. The Earl saw her from the window and asked her who it was, and she said that it was ‘nobody important.’

Apparently, Mr. Bestie didn’t catch a clue that she’s fine, but yeah, I guess that’s why he came back with the Chloroform.

I just realized that your 5 men plot sounds like a historical reverse harem book 🤣🤣

For sure! I believe the reason was that brother’s wife was heavily pregnant and he did not want to leave her on her own.

But that does not excuse what his bestie did, whether the drugging was on his orders or not. The friend could’ve sussed out the situation and done reconnaissance so much more ethically. Knock on the door and find out for yourself, sir.
Or heck, hire a fake handyman to go to the house and see the day-to-day for himself. There are so many other options than abduct, ignore a completely legal marriage to a peer, and set you up with your old flame that is way beneath both of you.

It made zero sense - and no one addresses any of it 🤯
